VR setting window missing
I've been having a strange problem recently with Steam VR setting window not showing on my desktop. I've looked for a solution for a few weeks now without success.
What's happening is I open Steam VR- the status window appears on my desktop - the app runs on my headset fine,
When I try to open the settings window (through the status desktop window menu) nothing shows up. If I hover my mouse over the Steam VR icon on the taskbar a 'peek' view shows I have the status window and the settings window open, I can not focus on the settings window though. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling steam and steam VR, updated everything and even tried the beta versions. I've tried cascading windows, show windows stacked and side by side. I've right clicked on the 'peek' settings window and tried to minimise/restore and move the window. It's not happening with any other program. I have practically the exact same config on my laptop and desktop and it's only on my desktop pc.
All I need to access in the setting is to change the audio config of mirroring the headset and desktop sound but can get access to it.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if anyone knows a fix?

Thanks, seams like a simular problem. The maximise option is greyed out on my system, so unable to implement it. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you are still stuck you could see if "running as administrator" helped - also do you have a check mark in the box for "always display on top"?

Thanks, running as admin hasn't solved it, good idea though! As far as I remember (and going off how it launches now) always display on top is on, but since I can't get into the settings it's hard to make sure.

YESS!!! Thank you found the solution in the many suggestions from your first link. Seems simple now but what worked for me was
1 - Right click task bar
2 - Click "Show the Desktop"
3 - Right-click taskbar again
4 - Click "Show open windows" (the only open software at the time was the one with the missing window)
I've been trying to solve for so long.
Thanks once again!

This helpped progress a bit since I had 301 error as well

Quaoting from https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4ip2x8/how_to_fix_steamvr_error_301_steam_support_just/

"After trying everything i could find in the Internet to fix the Error, i wrote to the Steam Support and they told me to do this:

Run vrpathreg and fix the paths to the correct drive letter/directory, or delete the openvr.vrpath file in <user>/AppData/Local/openvr. This folder may be hidden, so ensure you have these set to visible:

-Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. -Click the View tab.

-Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

It worked for me! :)

Have a great day! :)"

►See "Advance Solutions: General" section, point number "A7".
►If that doesn't fix your issue, look at the "fix guarantee or get a free steam key" thing in there.

I'm trying to understand something here. How are we supposed to access the SteamVR settings--when the VR icon no longer shows on the system tray when SteamVR is invoked? Another "update"--I take it?

My issue was that it would launch only with Steam link but the icon would never appear on the task bar or task tray. I figured out that it was due to setting the vrmonitor.exe to run as Admin. So I had to find that .exe (C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\SteamVR\bin\win64\vrmonitor.exe), launch it (came up as just a black window), then I could right-click the icon on my task bar, right-click the SteamVR app - Properties - Compatibility, and finally remove the run as Administrator option. Boom, it was back.

My black window only covers the window like I have to do my settings blind
