They also have a stock camouflage ability that gets better with vet and they have a focus fire activated ability with their STG-44's that will cut any squad down in seconds.
Have them hold fire, sit behind green cover if available, or any cover rather than none at all. Have them wait for an enemy to approach, and then unleash hell.
They are best used as ambush troops since they erase squads in closer quarters.
This.
The Pgren bulletins also work on them. Encirclement is a solid choice in 1v1 imo.
It is a massive near/mid accuracy buff that comes at the cost of reduced mobility.
Ah true. Yeah I think there is some sort of received accuracy penalty alongside it too. So dont activate Tactical Assault out in the open without cover. Get close using LoS blockers/camo and watch as the Storms evaporate squads!
I had a match last night where my teammate spent all match barely doing anything, prompting me to hit the enter key and start typing an enraged message at his stupid ass.
And right before I sent it, he Closed The Pocket and annihilated both of the other guys' entire armies completely, because he'd been luring them forward while busily decapping everything behind them. It was ridiculous.
I just took a look at the OP's name and realized you were my teammate. Apart from the crazy coincidence, that was an incredible match, man, I saved the replay.
Thank God you took that doctrine after all, eh?
Want to add that you can nullify the speed reduction by using the sprint ability that comes with Encirclement. Also, from my understanding, the speed reduction continues to apply even during a retreat, so try to time your retreats so you're not slowly running through the open in front of an enemy force.
For one, they can upgrade outside of friendly territory, meaning you could pop two of these squads out behind enemy lines without being noticed, give them both shreks, and then use the Sprint ability to come out of nowhere and take down a Katyusha or two.
Secondly, used in conjunction with the Stuka de-cap abiltiy, you can back-cap rapidly with these guys in order to then use Close the Pocket.
Third, they are the only Wehr unit, as of now, that can pop out of ambient buildings.
Fourth, they have a choice of AI or AT upgrade. And the AI upgrade unlocks an ability similar to the USF Paratrooper ability that increases firepower while getting a little more vulnerable to do so (blanking on name of ability, though).
Lastly, they have a decent grenade ability that can be used to hit crewed weapons quickly after popping out of a building.

I really think they're a very good unit.
Not exactly the best choice if the goal is pure AT, seeing as Pgrens can get two shreks for only 2/3 of the muni cost of the StormTrooper single shrek.
And not the best pure CQC unit given that StG-44s are an expensive upgrade for them while Pgrens are already decent CQC out of the box (and until you get them shreks).
And even in long range combat, Grens with LMG-42 and rifle grenades are possibly better.
But Storm Troopers are a good all-around unit, and are the only partisan-style choice whatsoever for Wehr, things that make them useful enough indeed. Add to that the other abilities on that commander, and you can turn back-capping into an art form.
