Royal Hungarian Army - Faction Plan
Hungary
The Kingdom of Hungary was left weakened after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian empire. A former grand kingdom in the Balkans, Horthy, Regent of Hungary decided it would be wise to push for a further growth of his Kingdom, and with the failings of the League of Nations, experienced Success in this task. However, his aim would inevitably lead to being pressured into fighting alongside Germany, inevitably leading to it's downfall.

Infantry Units:
Draft Infantry - The Basic units of the Hungarians. It is a 7 man squad. These guys are armed with very basic equipment. Of the 7 men, 4 would be armed with Mannlicher 31M rifles for long range purposes. The other 3 would be armed with Frommer Stop pistols. They would have an optional upgrade to replace all the Frommer Stops with Danuvia 39Ms, or a Support upgrade replacing one Frommer Stop with an MG30, or as it was known in Hungarian service, the Solothorn 31M.

Royal Hungarian Infantry - A fair bit tougher than the basic Hungarians. Coming in a smaller group than the draft infantry, the Royal Hungarian Infantry come in a group of 5, with 4 equipped with 35M rifles and one equipped with a Solothorn 31M. They can have an upgrade to receive the 43M rifles or receive Danuvia 43M Submachine Guns.

Royal Hungarian Guards - A defensive unit for the Hungarians. A team of 4, all equipped with 43M rifles. They have two upgrade paths. They can either be upgraded with 2 Solothorn 36M anti tank rifles, or 2 Mannlicher M1895 Snipers. If upgraded with Solothorn 36M anti tank rifles, they gain an ability which makes it easier for them to track enemy vehicles.

MG Team - Using the Schwarzlose MG, the team of 2 take a while to set up, the machine gun team is cheaper than all other factions but comes at the cost of not being quite as good a gun. However, to compensate, the Hungarian player has 2 options to upgrade down. They may either upgrade for a quick to set up, more maneouverable (faster speed the team moves at) gun, the MG131, or go for an even heavier but very expensive gun, the MG42.

Anti Tank Support Team - A two man team, equipped with FÉG 37M pistols. They are BOTH equipped with a Panzerschreck as well and firing it costs munitions. However, they can be upgraded whilst near their HQ to use a less maneouverable but far more defencive 36M anti tank gun (The German 37mm anti tank gun.) If upgraded to use a 36M anti tank gun, they can 'dig in' giving it better defence bonuses. The 36M is less powerful than the Panzerschreck, but costs no munitions to fire, is more accurate, faster firing and grants a defencive shield to the crew.

Vehicles
39M Csaba - A cheap, 20mm gun armed Armoured car. Tiny and capable of putting up a limited fight, but your main use for it is to really annoy the enemy rear lines and to figure out where your enemies are moving. It is VERY fast and has decent anti-infantry capabilities. This Armoured Car also has the ability to decap points and, if it survives long enough to reach Veteran 1, well it decaps them at double the speed, really rewarding you for managing to make it live that long somehow. Requires a lot of care but can be VERY rewarding from it. Upgradable to Engineer.

Toldi I - Your standard light vehicle. Equipped with a 20mm gun and a single 8mm machine gun, the Toldi shows it's strength against infantry.

Turán I - A very light, fast tank that doesn't have brilliant armament, equipped with a 40mm Skoda A17 gun. With Two 8mm machine guns, this is still very capable of pinning infantry down, but whilst good against light tanks, it will inevitably be outclassed in the late game. However, still being a 40mm gun, it will be limited in frontal assaults but will be able to use it's speed to make itself a great flanker.

Zrínyi II - A Tank destroyer based on the Light Turán chassis. Equipped with a 105mm gun, this will grant quick moving, effective tank destroying support. Whilst only with 75mm armour at it's thickest, this will obliterate any unlucky enemy that decides that it is a good idea to engage this.

Nimród - Based on the Toldi tank, the Nimrod is a light tank destroyer/ Anti Aircraft Weapon. Reaching a speed of 50km/h, this is the step between the Toldi and Turán. With a 40mm gun, this was mostly used as Anti-Aircraft and would remain so. However with such a gun it is also somewhat capable against Tanks. HOWEVER, it is also an autocannon.... meaning it is good against infantry....

Tás 44M - A tank similar in specs to the Panther. This is equipped with a 75mm gun and somewhat decent maneouverability. This would have somewhat better armour than the Panther.

Artillery
7.5cm PaK 40 - An effective anti-tank weapon, it's the best infantry level weapon the Hungarians can get. Sent by the Germans, it's effectively the best defence they will get against a mad tank rush.

105mm 37M Light Field Howitzer - A relatively quick firing weapon the Hungarians have access to. Produced by the Germans, it's a modern and effective Howitzer.

General ideas:
Arrow Cross - Whilst a political party, the Arrow Cross were influencial and produced their own militia. So you can see where I am going here. The Arrow Cross upon being selected would replace the Draft Infantry with Arrow Cross Militia. The Arrow Cross militia are slightly cheaper, harder to rout and somewhat more accurate. The Support upgrade instead grants 2 Solothorn 31M machine guns instead of just the one.

Royal Cavalry - An upgrade to tanks. This improves the Turán I, upgrading it to the Turán II, giving it access to a short 75mm gun which has better penetration value. The Toldi is upgraded to the Toldi III, which improves it's armour and gives it access to the Turán I's main gun.

German Support - Grants access to the Panzer IV, German Infantry Squad, StuG III and Tiger I

Italian Support - Grants access to the Ansaldo CV33 which has a stealth ability. Also plane call ins.

Arillery Support - A devastating one. The Hungarians had a few... pieces of equipment that could be quite devastating including a 305mm Howitzer. Yeah. That's a call in. Alongside this would be the use of Recon Planes and an upgrade on the Csaba granting it a weak artillery call in as well.

Second Army - The Second Army historically fought in Stalingrad. Now whilst it did of course lose, they would of had some veterans. This adds a Second Army Veteran squad call in that is similar to the Royal Hungarian Infantry unit, but adds a 6th squad member, with a 35M rifle. They get another upgrade option for Mannlicher M1895 Sniper rifles. (2 of them). This doctrine also grants limited artillery support and increased morale for all units.

How Hungary Builds
So looking for an expansive method here. One that is unique to Hungary.
Now, as I see Hungary as a somewhat rush faction, I feel they should have access to just one building, but this is going to be unique for a reason. Their main engineering unit will be the 39M Csaba Armoured Car. Now the Armoured Car will get an upgrade to an Engineering one. Reason for this being, it adds more of the rush element to Hungary, gives them more of what you'd expect from a rush nation, capable of quickly speeding round and holding areas with the Csaba building recruiting buildings near to the front. But of course these buildings should be limited. I feel 4 should be the absolute maximum.

And thus we come to a conclusion of how it should all expand.

Well, I feel we should start of with a Royal Division Training Grounds.
The Royal Division Barracks is the only buildable construction building by the Hungarians. It builds the Draft Infantry, Royal Hungarian Infantry and 39M Csaba.

This can then be upgraded to the Royal Battalion Barracks.
The Royal Battalion Barracks adds the Royal Hungarian Guards, MG Team, Anti Tank Support Team, 105mm 37M Light Field Howitzer, Toldi I, Nimrod and Turan I to the production line.

This is then upgradable to the Royal Army Headquarters.
This can produce everything else at the Hungarian disposal.

On top of that, Engineer 39M Csabas should also be able to produce Schwarzlose emplacements, mines and tank traps. So what does Hungary start off with? Well to be a fair, fun nation I feel it should start with a single Engineer 39M Csaba, and two Draft Infantry.

So yeah, you can see my plan here. I've come up with a faction that has an unusual mix of general infantry that can be specialised in various ways to make them more effective. However they lean on rush but can be used in other ways too.

In a perfect world we would see all the fighting nations added. The Royal Hungarian army would be a cool addition to the axis side and bring some really unique units and style to COH. Any chance you could make a brief for the Italian forces who went to the eastern front?
King Hades Jul 16, 2015 @ 5:44am
I unfortunately don't know as much about Italy as I know about Hungary. Whilst Italy is a good faction to add, it would likely be better to add the forces that fought in the Italian campaign as, with the British DLC coming out, it could add a new front for us to fight on (Central and Northern Italy) which is rarely explored in most WW2 games. I could give it a shot.

The only worry is, the Tás 44M never entered mass production. However one prototype was made. It was to enter mass production but the blueprints were destroyed in a Soviet bombing raid. By CoH2 rules this makes it both viable and not viable for use. As it was produced and technically entered mass production (There were supposdedly more being made, but one full copy was made) but neither entered combat nor service.

Italy on the other hand, has one major worry. A lot of it's vehicles are completely obsolete in 1944 and 1945. Meaning we'd mostly see an Italian infantry mixed with German vehicles. The Italian infantry though would be glorious to see, as some fought incredibly well during the war, whilst some did the opposite. In contrast to Hungary, Hungarian infantry wasn't anything special but it did produce some vehicles that did become obsolete but, unlike the Italian vehicles, could still perform on 1944/1945 battlefields.

Meh, COH allows much smaller vehicles that were obsolete fight against the more advanced vehicles so I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect. The one front I would like to see Italy added though would be the eastern front since a large contingent of Italians fought in that area alongside other axis allies like Hungary and Romania.

The african deserts and towns are over done for Italy I think and the British DLC will (going by the trailer) see you in either France, Holland or Belgium anyway so keeping it to the European continent would suit the devs best anyway.

I never mentioned Africa, I mentioned Northern and Central Italy.

By 1943 Italy had surrendered and Northern Italy continued to fight for the Axis and encountered the Allied UK and US forces in Central and Northern Italy.

Yeah I just meant that usually when Italy is added to WW2 games its always the North African theatre which is better suited to grand strategy titles than the fast pace of COH.

Dont get wy peaple saying poland hogarian when the best know and best equips axis faction other than the germans was the japanese. Not that i wouldnt like to see hungarian forces but dont think they are any good also wy squads of seven when the whermacht that had bigger infatry army gets only four in a squad.
King Hades Jul 16, 2015 @ 6:04am
The Tas 44M tank is on par with the Panther. The Japanese army had the Chi Ri tank in prototype as well which would have been as efficient. In reality, Hungary and Japan were the only two axis factions capable of being up to date with the rest of the world when it came down to ground force technology, but war pushed them both back. Hungary built a tank that was on armour equivelant to the Panther and had a slightly better gun but worse engine, and Japan came out with a fast tank with an autoloaded gun, but very poor armour.

The Infantry sizes is a balance thing. Hungarian infantry wasn't remembered for being hard fought units. But most of it was poorly trained due to drafting. However it did have some very well trained troops - hence why I have given a bit of option for cheap disposable units or well trained, but not Wehrmacht level trained, units.

Well thought out concept. I'd much rather have Hungary and/or the other European Axis powers added instead of Italy.
Dplayernl Jul 16, 2015 @ 6:10am
I get youre point im realy into new factions whant to see something more then just 5 or 6 it gets boring afther a wile but dont forget the Type 4 Chi-To medium tank that had 75mm of well sloped armour and a high velocity 75 mm gun. the best they produced but was few in number and was only used on japa itself.
King Hades Jul 16, 2015 @ 6:28am
The Chi Ri I mentioned is an improvement of the Chi To. However, the Csaba Armoured Car I used in this concept would very much be able to penetrate the side and rear of the best tank the Japanese could give out. Hence, well, we come to an issue here. Japan would be VERY awkward to play with. So I feel it would really need a thought out concept. The Tas 44M has better rear armour than the Chi To has frontal armour.

Now here's the thing.Quinn Duffy was interviewed and he said they would releaese more modding tools and I quote: ''I think at some point having a group of players or a clan take up those challenges, of modding in a far Eastern army, or the Italians, that kind of thing, that’s something we’d be excited to support.''.
So here you have it.
King Hades Jul 16, 2015 @ 6:34am
It still does not remove any possibility of their own new factions, at the moment there are 3 allied and 2 axis, so they'd likely be looking for a 3rd Axis to even the numbers out.
Count Marius Jul 16, 2015 @ 6:37am
You should try Men of War German Soldiers Mod.It has Hungarians,Romanians,Italians.

I've got the Men of War Assault Squad 2 Valor Mod. That adds Hungarians, Italians, Polish, Finnish and the French.
