Is TruckersMP safe?

TruckersMP requires the permission to use your Steam account after you log on it. I was wondering - is it safe?

The permissions it gets granted are just verifying you own the game, have played at least 2 hours, and gives a fallback link in the event you get banned from TruckersMP. It can not take your information. It only has an API token. If signing in using the API was unsafe, then Steam wouldn't have the API for others to use.

That explains it, but I heard cases of them being hacked at some points.

Yes, there was a data leak a while ago, but no Steam information was leaked (since it's an API as explained previously). Only affected the information on TruckersMP website itself (login and stuff).

Well, Steam could also have a data leak (or already had, but it's not been publicized) -- nothing is necessarily 100% safe. But yeah, I'm sure TruckersMP learnt their security lesson after that.

But in general, yes, as long as the authentic Steam API is being used, the information is fine.
