"Headlight offense" when using dim headlights?
To put this in perspective, I get no fines for using no lights at all. I haven't tried marker lights only yet. But sometimes I get this random fine for using dim headlights. How is that possible?

Where I live, if you drive around with no headlights, or with your brights on all the time, you're getting pulled over and fined out the wazoo. Where does the notion that using dims should justify a fine, but not brights all the time, or no lights at all?

Okay. I tested it without headlights. Just to be sure. No headlights, and dim headlights, produce the same result.

As you can get in serious trouble driving around with your brights on all the time where I live, I don't understand why you're expected to drive with your brights on all the time.

Sure, brights allow you to see better. That's sort of the point. But you're supposed to have them dimmed when you see oncoming traffic or there's another vehicle in front of you.

This is why lights have marker lights and headlights as two separate settings, and why brights and dims is a separate function altogether. It's actually possible to have your brights on while the lights are off, and so you turn the lights right on to brights.

But I suppose, as this game is set in Europe, they feel it's safer to drive around blinding everyone on the road.

That might explain all the gorgeous accident videos ya'll keep putting on YouTube.

There is 3 kinds of lights : parking lights, low beam, high beam. NB : With the first one, no really visible external changes on your surrounding, only that your dashboard is highlighted.

The first two are activated with the key L and the latter with the K.

Using the parking lights to drive is forbidden and fined. You should read that article because there is numerous names for the same lights : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_lighting

If you press L only once, you don't have your low beams on, just the parking lights. For your low beam (dim headlights), you need to press L twice (press F4 and make sure low beam is selected). For your high beam (brights) press K (toggle).
You can't drive with the high beams on(the brightest ones) if there are other vehicles in front of you(on your lane or coming by the other one), because that can blind the others drivers, at least in Europe it's a basic traffic rule.

Perhaps I haven't understood well what you are saying. You mean that if you drive with the low beams on you get a fine? If it is that maybe you have a mod or something affecting your game, because never happened to me. Check on the dashboard to have the green light indicator when the headlights are on, and not the blue one.

After getting a few fines, I finally found out that the daytime headlights aren't accepted as your headlights being on.

I think there is a bug in the game, because when only the parking lights are on, the dashboard is lit up. That's what makes it confusing. If the dashboard would not be lit up, then it would be easier to tell if you have the correct lights on or not.

As far I'm concerned, ETS 2 works the same way than IRL.

. the parking lights lits up the dashboard.
. driving (at night) with no light or only the parking lights give you a fine.
. high beam pisses off the other drivers.

I made a very public apology for this thread on "Call Me an Idiot."

For those of you kind enough to point out my error, I give my deepest gratitude.

Doesn't really change the fact I was a moron, though, does it? ^_^

You get here via search engine and don't look at the post dates. It's not that difficult to figure out.

I was driving at night with parking lights and didn't get a fine. Then I had them on in the rain and "That's a paddlin'."
can only say it for Germany, but here it is strictly FORBIDDEN to drive with dim lights/ parking lights only... could as well use no lights at all... and it´s a matter of luck/ time if you get fined for it in the game

I was in Germany (In the game) and it was pitch black, couldn't see a thing. Turned on my headlights and got an offence.
