Bind acceleration to button?

I'm using this fancy tool: https://github.com/lukegb/WiiSteer
and it seems to be really difficult to accelerate/decelerate using the z axis (tilting forward and backward). I'm wondering if there's a trick or mod that will allow me to bind acceleration to the 2 button, for example, then cruise to A, and brakes to 1.. It would just make life so much easier.

You can define/bind any button on the keyboard, gamepad, steering wheel to which ever button you want in the game options screen...I believe the specific screen is keyboard set up.

Right, it says press button or move stick to assign axis, but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the 2 button as an axis. Thanks for your help, though!

go to keyboard options and see if you can bind the buttons on that screen instead of in the controller section
