Avoiding sleep fines while on a job
I was put off by massive traffic jams and unexpected AI braking to make it to my destination before the sleep timer ended. I managed to get to a city with rest places but none of them allowed me to rest there and there were no rest stops en route to my destination. I wound up losing most of my money on that job on sleep fines because there was no place to rest with a trailer. Is this a bug because I noticed that most online guides don't mention continuous sleep fines and that you needed to be on free roam mode to rest anywhere but the rest stops?

One forum stated that you could nap while parking at a location that is not a parking lot. I tried it several times, even on the side of the highway. It was infuriating as I've seen truck drivers actually park to rest on the auxilary lanes on the highways in real life.

Most of the gas stations, toll booths and border crossings have rest areas, and in the towns, there is usually a hotel and garage where you can rest as well, but they're not as easy to park with a trailer. If you want to remove a bit of realism, you can just disable the option to require sleep. If you want to leave that option turned on, just be sure to check how many hours you have left, and find a place before your time runs out.

yep he is quite right just un hook trailer go to garage fill up with fuel and they have rest stop to the right of the pump for about 5 trucks and about 2 on the left of the entrance way , or you could have gone to spec savers and looked for a hotel, loads on your map if you look in your area..

if you run with the gps, you can view a bed blue icon on the road, you can sleep there, if you look your big map, you can view the same blue bed icon, it's help you to know where you can sleep on the road,

if you have the gps active, press the "F6" key, in this windows on your gps, they will show you how many time they rest you before you need to take some rest...,

other thing, when you drive, and if you have you gps active, to have a fast view, look in the up of your gps, you can view a bed icon, more the blue line go up, more the time to make a stop come close, if the bed icon become red, find a place the more fast you can...

because like you say, when they begin to give 150 euro of ticket it's not finishing, you receive one in each hours after the first ticket you receive..., i have already pay more than 1000 euro because of stupid turkey AI driver they have block the way and don't let's me go, i have need to bump her to be able to pass because no one have wanted to let's me pass Ha ha Ha

I'd had that problem till I figured it out.
You need to park within the parking box at roadside rest stops.
In garage when repairing Truck you can park in the parking slots to your right, should be a truck there, next to that within parking-lines.
In the hotel: on the nav map view1 make sure to get the truck exactly on the blue parking icon, as other spots don't seem to work well especially if in a hurry.
-Sometimes parking lines not as important as hitting the blue icon on small map. Stop moving E should appear.

I find petrol stations & Garage best as can do two things at the same time.

I just clicked sleep timer off completely, wasn't so realistic when "I" was tired, when I wasn't.

Concerning traffic jams: save your game then load it. This will reset traffic. (Of course, you might consider that cheating...)

Just like IRL, driving trucks in ETS 2 takes some trip planning. When I was learning how to drive long hauls, we spent a LOT of time on that, along with map reading, etc. There's not much you can do other than pay attention to your sim driver's need for sleep, by looking at the bed in the GPS window, and also using F6 to check when you need to sleep. Unfortunately, the fines for over-driving your allotted hours is stiff, both in Europe and over here in the States. Good luck!

it's not about whether you are tired or not. It's the law, you cannot drive more than 11 hours without a break.

like others have said, you have to plan your trip and look for rest stops and see which ones you can make it too. If you can't make it to the farther ones, sometimes you have to stop early. As for not being able to rest, there are a few spots that are hard to get the rest notice unless you get parked exactly right. In those cases you can detach your trailer and park and rest and then attach it again after.

Thank you all for the well advice! I haven't had any of these problems by planning ahead, as some of you stated.

so glad to help!

My problem sometimes is leaving the rest area amd re-entering traffic. I was on one just N of Milano during daytime. Heavy traffic on #2, no merge lane, waited several minutes for a break and then just put on flasher and slowly pulled out. Car hit me so I was fined but I did get rolling again.

You can just go to a rest stop (by gas station.. etc) with your trailer. Literally park on the rest stop, unhook, rest, hook back up and be on your way.

Thx for the rest stop idea
