How to completely disable GPS?

I can switch Route Advisor to job info page or hide it altogether, but GPS is still showing the route when I go to the world map. I find this annoying, as I'd like to plan a route by myself without any help from the navigation system.

Is there a way to completely disable GPS?

The only thing you can do is hide the route advisor altogether. There is no way to just turn the GPS system itself. Even with the route advisor hidden, your big map will still show the auto generated GPS route.

The best thing I can tell you to do is to open your big map when you first take a load and look at the proposed route then decide for yourself if you think that is the best way or if you would like to go a different way. If you want to go different than how the GPS wants you to go, you will have to remember the road numbers and cities where you will deviate and probably still need to open the big map from time to time to make sure you are still going the way you want to go.

Thanks for the suggestion, Menacing Scarab! I cannot express enough how much more interesting and captivating I found my rides by actually paying attention to signs and tracking cities on my route, and not looking at the red line on my screen.

The problem that I'm now facing is that I've upgraded my MAN's interior to exclusive version. It's now showing the navigation screen on the dashboard. :) I guess I'll just revert to stock interior.

The only way you can get rid of the red route is write a mod that changes the colour of the navigation route to the same colour as discovered roads. The downside to this is that traversin roads not previously discovered will appear 'discovered' but the route will still be shown, just not in red.
On the dashboard GPS the green direction arrows will still be there too. It's possible they can be recoloured too, but I've not seen a mod that does this.

You can turn you're interior gps off, though you must assign a key for it.

Theres a toggle in the Options menu to always hide GPS.

The OP is saying that when he/she looks at the World Map to see where they are, the GPS route that is automatically generated when taking on a job, is visible. It is visible regardless of the state of the dashboard GPS or floating Route Advisor.
As I said previously, a mod to change colour of the route would help. I think.
The only way to plan a route yourself is to look at the world map and use waypoint markers. But you only get 10 at a time. Maybe that's the OPs only solution at this point.

Perhaps it could be a suggestion to SCS to add an option to disable GPS operation altogether?

Yeahh...and since the 3 years the op asked that scs has build in stuff like custom waypoints into the game, which gives one the ability to plan/make your own route....

Last update has given the players the option to turn off the red route on the GPS. I don't know the full details, but there is a new drop-down in the options menu with 3 options iirc. And there is also the option (a toggle) to hide the route advison all the time.

Never noticed that. Just tried it with "Show Navigation" set to Never. Looks to me like that's what the OP is looking for.

At the 'home' screen:
Options | Game Play | "Show Navigation" - select "Never" from drop down list.
