4x2's or 6x4/6x2-4 question

What are pros and cons of having a 4x2, 6x2-4, or 6x4?

4x2 has larger fuel tank but the six axel chassis has better handling with heavy load.

Hmm? never had a problem handling a heavy load with my 4x2 before. I just swiched to a 6x4 truck so I didn't know what the difference was.

Also, I just found out the hard way that the 6x4 also has a larger turning circle compared to a 4x2. Didn't end well >.<

6x2 seems to have a tighter turning circle compared to the 4x2, as it has 2 steering axles. It does, however, appear to compromise fuel capacity, as my DAF (my first and only truck so far) lost about 400 litres worth of fuel capacity.

I would assume 6x4 has two diffs, rather than two axles for steering. (Apologies for my, most likely, poor terminology. I have little experience with this kind of thing)

I'll give the 6x2 a try, Just got done doing a 1100k trip with a 24t load with the 6x4, did not like it at all. but I've been using the 4x2 for over 50,000k now so I'm kinda used to it but still, big turning circle cost me almost 10,000 euros in repairs. :(

and yes the 6x4 uses 2 diffs.

i have a Iveco with the 6X2 and yes it does reduce the fuel tank about 500 Lts but i don't pay a much repair 4 the wheel damage. So the 6X2 save wheel tread.

does a chassis with 6x2/6x4 consume more fuel than a 4x2 (because there are more movable parts and moving parts costs energy)? or is only the tank-size reduced? i'm driving a scania r420 4x2 and i like the 700+700l-tanks :-/ the 6x2 looks like it has only ~600+400l or even less :-/

The way they did fuel is exceedingly basic and is only worked out on miles travelled, not realistic values of driving.
So all chassis,engines, trailers use up the same fuel.
I have gone back to a 4x2 as with the eco fuel perk your huge tank lasts ages.

So is there any difference other than fuel tank for the 6x2 vs 6x4? I don't seem to notice much grip or turn radius difference.

The only time you will really see a difference in the rear ends is either with fuel tank size. Or if you have the speed limiter turned OFF, the extra grip provided by the 6x4 will keep you on the road where as a 4x2 will end up in the ditch. Under 60mph there's not much to worry about.

I have noticed no grip difference between chassis, i changed my volvo 750 back to 4x2 and still can go round most corners at 75+.
If you are talking about real life the that is a fair statement

In prototype trucking, more axles = more hauling capacity. In the game I use the 4x2 for everything.

If you have a realistic physics mod installed, then 6x4 is definitely the way to go. It accelerates almost like a sports car, barely loses any speed on all but the very steepest hills, and is much more stable than the 4x2 on long corners. The smaller fuel capacity is totally worth it considering the huge gains you get in other areas.

Unfortunately though I can't advise on the default game physics...
