Not letting me detach the trailer
How damn perfect does this game want me to park? Took me a while, and eventually I did it, but now it's not letting me detach.

I've found you need to get most of the trailer within the box and your truck cab behind the white line, then it should turn green.

Press T when the box turns green or if you don't want to park the trailer just press enter.

Oh, you have to park inside the big square, and just ignore the 2 lines infront... wtf. Way to confuse me game!

Correct. I've found it more important due to different length trailers to have the trailer lined up in the large square. Have had the cab at 45 degrees & not even in the smaller square & was still able to detach

I think the extra line at one end is just there to let you know which direction to reverse in from, didn't seem to work reversing in from the other end when I tried it (quarry).

The position of the prime-mover is irrelevant (as noted above) - I've had the tractor at way sharper off-angles than the 45 degrees mention above without any problems detaching the trailer - you just need to have the trailer lined-up inside the borders and towards the rear - just get it lined up and keep reversing slowly until the box turns green.
