Mouse steering does not work - how do I enable?
UPDATE: I found the option which enables mouse steering. Go to Controls options and select the drop-down arrow at the very top, as seen in this screenshot:

and select "Keyboard + Mouse Steering." Thanks to BombB2 for the answer and help.

Despite selecting Mouse Steering in the control setup wizard, moving my mouse has no effect on the steering in game. It only moves my camera to either look around inside the cab or rotating the camera when in an outside view. I would like to be able to turn the vehicle left and right by moving my mouse accordingly. It doesn't sound like any one else is having this issue, so am I overlooking something obvious or misinterpreting what it means to have mouse steering?

I've tried holding down my right mouse-button, toggling various options in both gameplay and control, creating a new driver profile, and so on -- all to no avail.

I'm hoping someone has experienced this problem or could shed light on how to enable mouse steering. I appreciate any help, thank you.

I've tried going through the Control Wizard several times and creating new driver profiles, but mouse steering does not work. I've also tried holding down the right mouse button during gameplay, toggling Steering Autocenter from gameplay options, and changing both Steering Sensitivity and Steering non-linearity sliders in controls options. But still moving my mouse during gameplay only changes the camera view or looks around inside the cab, but does not move the steering wheel.

Here are screenshots of the options I am selecting when I launch the game. I select Mouse Steering, Simple Transmission, and otherwise leave the settings on default:

When I first launched the game for the very first time, I had a wired Xbox 360 controller connected to my PC. Thinking that may have been the problem, I have tried disconnecting the controller, launching the game, and then creating a new profile and selecting Mouse Steering from the control wizard again, but it didn't have any apparent effect on getting mouse steering to work.

goto settings then click on the controls icon at the bottom should have a picture of a steering wheel. at the very top there is a drop down box. select they keyboard and mouse option. it works and makes the game way better if you dont have a wheel. the wizard doesnt seem to work.

BombB2, thank you very much. That UI option did not look like a selectable option to me, and so previously I was only clicking the submenu for "Controller subtype", which only offered two choices -- Wheel and Gamepad. But upon your advice, I clicked on the arrow at the very top and saw there is an option for "Keyboard + Mouse Steering" which fixed my problem.

For anyone else having difficulty enabling mouse steering, go to Controls options and click this arrow at the very top and select "Keyboard + Mouse Steering":

Exit that page by clicking the X at the top right corner. Do not click one of the options at the the bottom of the page or else your choice won't "stick".

You can still move the camera with your mouse. Just hold the right mouse button as you move the mouse in order to move the camera.

If the developer SCS Software happens to read this thread, they should know that there is a UI bug that selecting Mouse Steering in the controls wizard does not enable the "Keyboard + Mouse" setting.

Thanks, had this bug, too. Mouse steering is 100 times better than with keyboard! :)

Bought the game yesterday and having a lot of fun with it.

I just figured out how to fix the keyboard steering (without using the mouse steering) and the lagging problem that worked for me. I want to share how I did it to help others out. First of all download the Euro Truck Simulator 2 patch 1.5.2. That fixes the keyboard steering problem and I think it also helped with the lagging even though it doesn't say in their patch description. Then for the lagging problem, open up your game then in options for graphics, put the resolution to the lowest, after that instead going to advance settings just go to simple settings and check the low box and then click apply. Make sure you adjust the keyboard steering sensitivity to where it feels comfortable for you. I have my just little more than a 1/3 of the way. Now everything is working fine! I hope this will help you!
