Lets pull out and jam on the breaks!
Looks like the AI drivers are modeled after teen drivers "oh it can stop, because my lil car can."
Took only 1 car pulling out in front of me to put me in the red. went off the road to avoid hitting it, ended up on side in oncoming lane ontop of that car with 4 more plowed up in front of me. ended that charecter on second load, just wish this game had damage models so I could see the carnage.

Yeah there are bad drivers some times just like real life. I even see a collision between AI cars once in a while. I remember once I was waiting to pull out of a yard and there was heavy traffic, just a steady stream of cars going by, stop and go. I was watching to the left a bit and all of a sudden see one car slam right into the back of the one in front of it. I needed to turn right, into the direction that this mess was progressing towards, the other lane was clear so after I saw that I decided "forget you idiots" and pulled out to wedge myself into the first available space I coulf fit into and stopped all traffic, turned left, then came back around the block to go the way I was supposed to.

Also some times they will cut around you when merging, or leaving a fueling station. Had one zip around me as I was pulling out from getting gas - or he tried anyway, I was so peeved that I 'accidentally' swerved into him on purpose.

Roads with passing zones are also dangerous when you come around a bend and there's a car in front of you coming your way and you have an excavator behind you.

On the other hand there can be nice drivers too. Always use your turn signals because you can get lucky and somebody will stop to open a way for you to go, they flash their lights at you.

Yeah they can be most annoying at time. "Oh, hey, this lane is ending so instead of merging with traffic let's stop and pile up here then when a big truck is coming and gets close to the front of our line we'll pull out in front of him." That drives me insane, but they don't do it as much as long as I lay down on the horn when coming up on them. And yes the time when you get an endless car spawn can be really annyoing

With many hours on ETS2 it doesn't take long to recognise what the AI does and certain scenarios are almost guaranteed to occur. Your title is just one of them.

And just like RL driving, recognising where danger might be and spending less on enforcing "right of way" will avoid most accidents.

If he ducked out in front of you then you were overtaking and going too fast. You're in a heavy vehicle. Why are you overtaking at speed? :)

I've played the demo for half an hour and already learned the stupidity of the AI drivers. Drive defensively! :)

lol yeah some of the AI drivers are pretty stupid, cant say i really notice much anymore though, given i drive like a complete lunatic most of the time :P

Some times it's really not your fault though. I typically don't overtake unless I'm already in an express lane that is leading to my exit, and then I stay in that lane so I'm just passing traffic on my right (or left in GB) and not interfering with it in any way.

Some times though they actually pull in front of you after passing YOU and jam on the brakes. That's not a smart move regardless of what you're doing. They'll do that coming out of toll gates and gas stations too (the car is actually in the station with you and tries to get around you when you're leaving - a dangerous move on their part)

And also some fridge logic: if we're already going that fast, then why are they going even faster?

Or put it this way. If they pass and brake 20 or 30 meters in front of you and you hit them, yeah that's on you. But if they pass and brake 3 meters in front of you and you hit them, that is them causing the accident. One shouldn't reasonably need to prepare for that unless it's already about to happen because at that point things are so dangerous you might as well not even drive. They actually do this. Not all the time but it happens.

Also when the car is passing another truck around a blind corner and is in your lane, and you have no chance to see it ahead of time and are blocked in on all sides - hill on one side, oncoming truck, and oncoming car in your lane - what are you supposed to do? Grow wings? Luckily I don't hit them anymore because I slow down for those corners but still, it's a good freakout when it first happens to you.

Crazy how it has been 10 years since this convo, and this issue still hasn't changed.
They still come out of the gas station when I am clearly visible and then I get a huge repair bill.

And what is stopping you from using your brake?

You know that this is how they drive, you know to expect it, yet you still haven't modified your driving to avoid collisions? You do know that NPC vehicles can't "see" you, "hear" you, or make predictions of what you will do, don't you?
There is a word for drivers like you...:steamsalty:

All the NPC vehicles follow a script and a strict algorithm, if you can't learn what it is, you're losing out to a few micro-grams of silicon. Wow. :steamfacepalm:
Don't drive as you might do IRL, drive to suit the game and it's NPC's. Simples.:steammocking:

Don't see how that's unrealistic, i mean.. i seen drivers in RL that make AI drivers look like professionals, hence someone hit my car by reversing into me on the MCDonalds Drive true lane, how dumb can someone be reversing in a queue line not noticing a line of cars behind (ofcourse) her.
