It doesn't always work but it's worth a try, especially if you are short on time or cash.
You can use the "freecam".
Press 0 (zero), fly to a suitable location with numpad 8,4,6,2 keys. Get close to the ground and press F9. This will drop your truck and trailer (upright) at the current camera position.
This is also a massive cheat to get to places you couldn't otherwise go to. Also can be used to fly quickly to another location without driving there. Used with the F1 pause key it can be considered a cheat.

you don't have to restart, they don't take you back to the beginning. I think they take you to the nearest city. I could be wrong.
you could also just load one of the save games. the game auto saves all the time. Just have to hit the save/load button, select load, then check the box that says "show autosaves"
