Retail key doesnt work [FIXED]

Maybe it's not instant and maybe it's not the actual retail key, but a different key for having a retail key.

He's saying they probably haven't enabled retail key activation on steam yet. Wait a bit, it takes time to get that up. How much time? I have no idea.

In dev blog: Product Keys (also known as CD-Keys) issued for ETS2 should allow for activating the game on Steam as well.

ETS2 is still in "Add Non-Steam Game", so we should wait a day at least to get Steam updated

For customers of the other editions of the game who want to migrate over to Steam, there should be a way. We have provided Steam with a database of all Product Keys (CD Keys) issued so far, and we are told that it should be possible to use you keys to activate the game on Steam very soon. You'll hear it from us when the Steam activation is in place.
