Changing transmission ratios
Hi All, Is there any way that we can modify transmission ratios/acceleration coeff in the game so that the truck can go faster. Currently I'm using MAN truck(fully upgraded) in the game and the max it can go with trailer attached on a straight is 83 mph(Coz I've removed the speed limiter). Is there any way that we modify transmission ratios so that top speed can increase??

For Example, currently maximum speed one can go in MAN in Gear 10 is 55mph and in Gear 11 is 68 mph etc in the game. Is there any way one can increase this speed limit per gear by changing transmission ratios/acceleration coeff... Thanks!!

One more reason would be, if in case the truck gets damaged and 12th/11th gear is lost, changing trans ratios of lower gears can make up for the lost gears :P.

The ratios are stored in /def/vehicle/truck/<brand>/transmission/<accessory>.sii in the def.scs file.

@Komfr: Thanks!! Any idea how they can be changed.. I tried changing it but i see serious speed loss :P Is there any way such that we can assign speed range for each gear?? Like for gear 1, speed range should be 0 to 10 mph etc...

You can't easily determine the speed range for each gear ratio but it is possible.

Multiply the gear ratio times the final drive ratio to get the ratio of the engine RPM to the axle RPM. Now you know how many RPMs are at the wheel at a particular engine RPM. Knowing how far the tire rolls for each RPM you can know the speed of the truck at that gear ratio at a particular engine RPM. Not so simple but possible and knowing this you could determine exactly what 12th gear ratio you would need for any arbitrary top speed.

The Volvo standard transmission seems to have the highest max speed owing to it's 12th gear ratio and final drive ratio. You could replace the standard MAN transmission, for example, with the Volvo transmission in a Mod. Copy the Volvo trans file, put in a new name for the trans, rename the file for the Man and put the file in a proper MAN folder. Zip it and put it in the mod folder. Simples. This would add a new trans for the MAN that you would purchase.

Or you could modify the standard Man trans with values taken from the Volvo.

Note that the trans files are tuned for the particular engines that are available. A lower engine power requires a "lower" geared transmission else it won't drive well. The Volvo having a higher base engine power can have a "higher" geared trans by default.

With a lower geared trans a truck will have a lower top speed but it will have better acceleration. Everyone seems to notice that the MAN and the Scania both accelerate better than the Volvo, when you use the speed unlimiter it now becomes noticeable that the Volvo has the higher top speed, this is the reason.

You could just add a higher 12th gear to get a higher top speed.

Hmmm, thanks for the explanation :) I Need to go over Your reply couple of times before I understand Your first Paragraph :P. I actually own a MAN in the game (fully upgraded). I tried reducing differential ratio for the ZF AS Tronic (the game does not provide retarder trans for MAN :( ) and guess what, I'm doing 83 MPH on 10th Gear with 2 more gears to spare :D. However, it becomes hard to turn the truck above this speed, even on a smooth corner. I went close to 95 mph (remember, i use MAN, not Volvo, not sure how fast a Volvo would go then with my mod :P) on a straight but ended up going out of road (since the truck never turned :P)

Volvo 1010 HP standard trans = typically 98 MPH or 160 KPH max speed (not downhill).

And no, I can't take most turns at much above 70 MPH.

It's also depends on your trailer weight, not just gear ratio

And the most important, power
