Isn't it mainly driving on Highways?
I watched some YT gameplay videos and it looks like you are say 80% of the time driving on highways, which might be realism, but also a bit boring, isn't it. I have German Truck Simulator in mind which is more interesting, what you think?

True. And it's one of the very few problems with the game. However this is not a big budget game, and only way i see this could change is to include smaller cities and towns that are connected with smaller roads. And doing that would require more money into making the game probably.
That or limit the game to fewer countries, but then it wouldnt be "euro" truck anymore.

It's not all highways. Pick the right jobs and you'll be able to spend lots of time on the twisty scenic routes.

It's not really a euro truck any how it's a germany truck and a few other cities (lets see you goto more than 6 cities in france or just one in Spain (without using TSM))

Well, it is a budget game, I just wonder, if I buy such a game, maybe I should rather buy German Truck Simulator, maybe there are people here knowing both games and could make recommmendations in one or the other way?

I still would recommend getting ETS2 - especially while it's on offer - 170+ hours of game time and I'm still not bored of it

Keep in mind that Euro and German Truck Simulator are both Developed by the same people, the only difference between the 2 is that Euro Truck is still releasing frequent Updates. Euro is basically a combined edition of 2 of their Sims, German Truck, and UK Truck Simulator.

They both have mainly Highway Routes, but it all depends on which Job you take. You can generally get a good idea on how "straight" the Journey will be when selecting each Mission.

If you are looking for something that is abit more of a challenge, with twisty and tricky turns, then you can check out Scania Truck Driving Simulator. It's not really based around the whole Delivery aspect though, its more of a Time Trial.

Either way, check out their Website so you can Read up more on their Products. However, I would recommend Euro over German purely for the fact that Euro is still being developed.

They just released a totally free truck less then 24 hours ago, the latest Volvo FH16/13 model.
They are working on more free trucks and more updates, update to the A.I traffic, that update is going to be a pretty big one because it will make the A.I alot better and open up for more event like situations, first the A.I update then we'll see what they bring. The DLC skin is their first mico DLC, its way to bring in some more money to this tiny developer that work really hard for their fans. I normally dislike these kinds of micro DLC deals but as I'm a huge fan this game, and know they work very hard and really need the money to be able to continue, remember, they are working on American Truck Simulator wich looks amazing AND a Bus Simulator aswell. All wich are things people have been asking for, begging for... they listen to their fanbase, they support a game thats a year old now and will continue to do that for years to come. But they cant do it without capital, crying over 2 euro DLC painjob when a company does this much, wich is very rare these days feels silly. I might not use the painjobs much but I see it as a nice and easy way to support SCS because I believe in them. Rather give them my money then DICE, BF3 was terrible, sadly, I have to say I liked BF4 beta so I'll likely give them my money aswell :( haha anyway... none force anyone to buy anything. Take it or leave it...

While UK Truck Simulator was my favourite in the series, ETS2 has all that and more from previous iterations. It's bigger than ever, constantly being updated with new vehicles and features, and is graphically superior.

I'm sure the same will be said for American Truck Simulator, driving a massive Peterbilt along Route 66.

Well, I mainly would buy it because of Linux support, I try to reduce reboot my system for gaming purposes, the question was not to buy or not to buy, the question was rather, if I don't own any TCS game, should I rather buy GTS, since that wuold have more country side roads..., but yes, the active support for ETS2 is very valid argument. (Oh, I so much hate this steam browser)

Mainly highways? Yes.

Boring? No, not if you love to just drive for fun, and to explore places you've never been to before and see what you can find. The traffic makes things interesting and sometimes challenging, as does the different types of loads (unstable loads ftw!) and making deliveries in time while managing your sleep patterns. And buying trucks and managing drivers from your company adds some extra gameplay too.

And if you're really getting bored of highways, just buy the Going East DLC and drive around Poland for a while...many of those roads are quite small and winding compared to the rest of the map.

ETS2 is vastly better than ETS1 in terms of how interesting the routes are. Yes, there's lots of highway, but try going from France to Northern Italy. You'll spend lots of time on twisty roads.

There are some off road segments when going into and out of quarries and farms.

On paper the endless highway driving sound incredibly boring.

In practice it's an oddly spiritual experience.

I took the Italy route once at night in the middle of a storm. That was a trip to remember! :)
