Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the adaptive automatic transmission tries to simulate automatic transmissions like in real life.
For example a normal "automatic transmission" on a regular video game would only usually shift up just before or on redline.
But with this new adaptive automatic transmission it actually can shift before redline,since the game looks at your throttle input (if you have a pedal or some kind of anolog controller for throttle), load and rpm.
So it will shift up as fast as possible for example if you are at 40% throttle cruising down a highway with a average load. When you hit 100% throttle it will kick down ( or downshift).
Well just like how a real automatic is in real life really :P
I hope it makes sense, but I use an h-shifter on the game with a clutch so don't kill me if I'm wrong
. Adaptative : in an incline or with a heavy load, the engine RPM may goes up to 2000RPM. It adapts itself to the situation. More like sport-mode.
The keyboard input is always full throttle (or full steering) but the automatic gearbox would still limit the rev of the engine @ 1500RPM (or 2000RPM for the adaptative). Only the last gear, the 12th or the 14th would (should) go above.
It seems you are confusing RPM and throttle. The keyboard / mouse / wheel only controls how much gas you are injecting in the engine, not how much revs you will get. You can floor the gas pedal all you want, if you are in an incline, the revs won't go up. Keyboard = highest gas, NOT highest RPM.
The automatic gearbox will limit the rev at 1500RPM and the adaptative at 2000RPM. The only way you could get the max (2500-3000RPM) is with the sequential gearbox, or forcefully downshifting an automatic one.
Let met try it one more time. If you're using adaptive automatic gearbox in a real vehicle than the gears will change depending of how much throttle you are applying. If floor it, gears will shift at the red line, if you keep it at 1/2 gears will change at about 1/2 of max revs. Don't forget that we are talking about a diesel truck engine so you get the most torque at about 1-1.5k and max power at around 2k, there is no point of reving higher, since you're going to lose power (last gear is an exception). The keyboard's throttle has two positions on and off. That's why if you are using adaptive tramsmisson with a keyboard the engine will always rev to 2k.
We are not talking about climbs and downhills driving, there is a lot more math involved, like torque, gears ratio, diff ratio and weight of the freight.
I tried it in the game with my g27 and it works just like how ann automatic transmission would work irl. If i give it about 1/3 throttle on the pedal it shifts up midway powerband, and if I floor it the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ will shift right at the end of the power band.
Like RB26DETT said I don't know how "adaptive mode" will help keyboard players since a keyboards basically has a 0% throttle or 100% throttle (aka: not on it or down to the floor),
so I dont see how the system will know if you want it to shift up to save fuel if you're giving it 100% throttle input when pressing a button on the keyboard.
Either way to fully experience the game you really need to have a wheel and pedal to get that feeling of precise input to the truck.
The current setting should be visible in the right column, just as the other options.
