Is this realistic?
Hi there,
I'm looking forward to pick up ETS2 on sale and kind of curious:
1. Is it similar to real truck driving job? Or there are a lot of simplification/gamification?
2. Would it be ok to play with a gamepad? Or menu/navigation is designed for k/m?
Thanks in advance!:insfist:

Hello, if you like truck driving and going with your through europe, it's a cool game. You can add mods too from workshop or from other websites.
1. Kinda is but you can select the difficulty, in my opinion, the game devs could add more realistic stuff like getting out of the truck and fill the gas, better suspension and physics, better AI and less paid dlc's cause they're a lot and the vanilla game its not that funny(my opinion).
2. Yes it is, but maybe you'll have to configure a thing or two, there are tutorials out there that teach you that.

Enjoy playing.

As a retired Trucker. I would say this is as near as it gets. Everywhere I have delivered to in Europe and the Middle East is there on the map. You can define to suit yourself with most things. I highly recommend this simulator, I have got my money back ten fold. SCS are one of the best if not the best Dev companies.

There is a demo. You can try before you buy! ;)

1. This qualifies as an arcade simulator. It's not pushing itself to be realistic, but it is the driving side of things, less so the economy side. Things are scaled back.

2. I would say the majority of players use a gamepad. KB/M is required to a point, for navigation. You can use the gamepad entirely to play, but it's easier to just drop the controller for a few seconds for menu navigation. The game has excellent wheel support.

The demo will give you a pretty good idea of what you're getting into.

It has game like features like you need to lvl up and get experience to unlock things you can buy. Some minor unrealistic things like toll booth poles stop truck on it's tracks if you crash in those. You can drive through closed roads past the police without problems. AI drivers are not always too realistic. Anyway overall it's pretty simulation like.

Wow, thanks everyone for taking time to answer!
I haven't noticed there's a demo for ETS2 earlier.
Awesome community!

It's a driving simulator with a very simplified in-game economy. Many await (if ever) a higher detail simulation of the trucker experience with logs, documentation, dispatchers, customer communications, etc. Don't know if it's ever coming.

There is also a mod of sorts that streams irl radio stations for the country you're in called Local Radio. I highly recommend it. https://koenvh.nl/en/projects/ets2-local-radio
