Why am I driving so absurdly slow?

Hey guys, don't get angry at me or anything, I'm still on the demo, and I'm liking the experience this game delivers but the one thing keeping me from buying it right now is that I can't get my truck to go over 37mph, and thats in good flat road areas! I turned the speed limiter off but I know I must be doing something wrong. I'm using simple autonatic controls with a keyboard and mouse. what could be the possible causes? Thanks....I want to enjoy this game!

retarder or hand brake, every truck should be able to drive around 60, in later time, you will get faster trucks...

As said above, make sure the retarder or parking brake is not engaged. If you haven't changed the controller layout, then it should be the "space" key for engaging/disengaging the parking brake and " ; " and " ' " for increasing and decreasing retarder braking, respectively. Also make sure that you are not pressing "B" accidentally, as doing that will activate the engine brake (it should make a loud, distinctive sound with the revs up around 2000 rpm).

if you just started like me, try shifting to higher gears above 6th. use the shifter toggle, i believe it is button 0 or 1 to enable gears seven through twelve. I just got a Logitech G27 wheel and started ETS2, i noticed that I could never get my truck to go above 39kph. Imagine driving 259km that slow. lol

Bruh, I think he figured it out by now, since this was in 2013.
