Trailer brakes...are necessary in the game?
IRL when the driver brakes...the trailer brakes too? (i mean the air brakes, the pedal...i think)
or it uses another brake, indipendent, that is on the trailer?
and if so, in the game this thing is necessary or is already "realistic" to brake both the truck and the trailer?
hope i explained this thing well
thanks

you can independently brake the trailer but frankly just using the pedal is sufficient in the game since theres no situations where you need to brake just the trailer

Both is right - there is an independent brake circuit on the trailer, but the trailer is linked by the air pipes to the tractor and the trailer brake is applied simultaneously with the same pedal. The game simulates this correctly.

Brakes that do not apply on every wheel set are engine brakes and retarders. As these are part of the drivetrain, they only work on driven axle(s).

The separate trailer brake can be useful when stopped on a steep incline with a heavy load, by applying the trailer brake when starting to pull away it can prevent roll back and/or stalling.

As far as i remember, scs only added that Option in the game only because people asked for it.

Not even sure if it is used in rl anymore, as the chance that your truck/Trailer swayes out if you only use those increases a lot.

yes, so you are referring to real life? Those cables...(sorry i'm ignorant) between trailer and truck, carry electricity and air for the brakes of the trailer?
I mean, it's obvious that IRL if you brake with the normal brake the trailer would brake also.
(i don't know how LOL but i guess)

When I'm pulling a heavy load I find using trailer brakes are better as you don't get pushed along but then maybe that's just me.

idk i must try them, idk how to map them, i'll find a way
Silverbiker Sep 16, 2023 @ 4:38am
You can map them, as with other controls, in the button assignment menu.
Tap on trailer brake then select what you want to activate them with.
I have mine assigned to a button on wheel under my thumb so i can either tap or hold as required so can keep hold of wheel.

yes i know how to mapping, the point is i've all keys busy...
i will use a number key...since the camera i use alt+mouse and only interior view.
also, related question
about retarder and engine brakes...should i put them in automatic or manual? i always had them in manual
what's more realistic?

yes, that's it.... I use it the same way. IRL you need trailer brakes when sliding tandems or checking if fifth wheel is locked.

sorry but it's like a parking brake, or a brake you have to apply continuosly?

If you disconnect the air lines the trailer brakes lock on so they can be used as a permanent brake or one that you have to continuously apply when connected to the Tractor/Truck by said airline.

nope, i use them all the time, and i generally dont pull anything light, 40+ for me. activating just the trailer brakes also generally allows for a more gradual reduction in speed, keeping things more stable. i'm still on 1.46 though, so not sure if game updates changed things.

In Germany the so called "Streckbremse", i.e. "stretching brake" applying only on the trailer is forbidden exactly because the fit between stabilizing the truck by holding back the trailer and crashing trailer first and jackknived into the ditch is tight.

irl you cannot choose other than service brakes and/or engine/retarder, there is no such thing as a seperate trailer brake for you as a driver to apply when driving, it is one of those things that SCS added back when they knew less about trucks than they do now (which is still below basic knowlegde)
