Cars crashing when merging onto the highway
Am I the only one that notices that cars seem to just merge onto the highway without having the right of way? They just drive onto the highway while I'm in the right lane going 90 km/h and they don't care and just pull out in front of me. Also sometimes the AI cars crash into each other when merging and cause a MASSIVE traffic jam.

Just go into the left lane

They do the zipper merge. That is so that traffic flows better and you don't have to wait forever behind an AI sitting on the on-ramp waiting for a huge gap in traffic.

When you see a car/truck coming in to the highway, do as ( would do) you would do in real life, slow down and let them get into the highway.

Ramp traffic ALWAYS yields to freeway traffic.
At least here in the states.
Don't know why they can't fix it so it happens that way.

They had it like that quite some time ago. The result was that traffic waited forever on the on-ramp for a big gap in traffic to drive onto the highway. So you were literally stuck for quite some time behind an AI car or truck on the on-ramps.
While, yes, the current solution is less realistic it does allow for much better traffic flow.

It's not a sophisticated system, and roads in this game do not mirror real-life design that would give you the time and space to avoid or mitigate collision issues between vehicles.

You have to adapt to how it works in the game engine, not how you think it should work based on real life. The "simulation" at work here is mostly about how the truck feels and handles. Everything else is a convincing enough illusion, similar to a theme park experience, filled with tradeoffs and incongruency.

That's what I do every day. I'm afraid I would be doing it IRL.

Not in Denmark
In Denmark, we have a merging rule on the motorway, which means that both the motorway and the ramp must cooperate to make the traffic merge together like a zip, which is shown with this sign:

On the motorway, you can therefore sometimes find yourself having to slow down a little to help the on-ramp traffic if you drive in the right lane and drive side by side with the on-ramp.

This has already been written, but this is normal behavior in ETS2.
If the AI car trying to merge has its blinker out while driving, it will always merge no matter what.
If it has its blinker out while stopped, it is (almost) safe to pass.

Also, AI vehicles will try to stay in the outside lane whenever possible, so they will pull over to the right lane. (Of course, in the UK it's the left lane.)
