Volvo/ScaniaTransmission Differential Ratio
I am confused.

Patch 1.6/1.7 set the Volvo ratios incorrectly, the non-r transmission was 3.40 and the r transmission was 3.08. The fix was to set the r transmission to 3.40 with a Mod.

The developers said the error happened because of a bad copy-paste.

Now both the transmissions in both the Volvo and Scania are set to 3.08 just when I thought it should have been fixed to be 3.40.

So, which is it, 3.08 or 3.40?

Anyways, I have set both transmissions in the Volvo to 3.40 and both transmissions in the Scania to 3.42. The Scania particularly seems to be more driveable with this change.

they changed it to 3.08 so that the automatic transmission can set the 12th gear more easily

Short answer: whichever you prefer best. :D

Long answer: (which might be off slightly, pinning down the tire revolutions per km has been a tad tricky)

Volvo:
90 KPH with 3.08 diff = ~1480 RPM in 11th and ~1150 RPM in 12th
90 KPH with 3.40 diff = ~1630 RPM in 11th and ~1270 RPM in 12th

Scania:
90 KPH with 3.08 diff = ~1480 RPM in 11th and ~1180 RPM in 12th
90 KPH with 3.42 diff = ~1640 RPM in 11th and ~1310 RPM in 12th

The game definitely seems built to best handle the lower revving differentials, especially the automatic gear changing logic. Though not too low, that has its own issues. 1150-1500 seems to be the ideal range, hence why they stuck with the 3.08 diffs.

If you don't bother with the automatic but instead use sequential manual or an H shifter and prefer the 3.40/3.42 gearing, by all means, use that instead of the default 3.08.

I personally would like to see the differentials split from the transmission files and given their own category in the dealers, so the player can chose whether to prefer torque or fuel economy.

I agree with Zinfinion; Caterpillar mod offered more Trans with various gear ratios. I would like to see all future trucks with more trans options. Makes more sense as you can order vehicles with the gearing that you prefer.
