"Shimmering " or barberpole effect in graphics?
I've seached as much as I can and have not found a answer .

My game runs fine ,, no lag or stuttering . But the "shimmering" on all lines ,like the guard rails and hydro lines , windows and such it's ruining my experience ..It makes my eyes hurt .

I have all game settings on max, and have tried changing everything in game and on my GPU settings . THe shimmering always stays the same .

I'm sure others must have experienced this and found some way to fix it ..

I'm running : AMD quad core 3 gig processor
4 gig of ram
AMD 6950 2 gig Eyefinity GPU
Please Help !

Hmmm. can you take a screen shot to show us what you mean.
UncleJung {Can} Dec 2, 2013 @ 1:57pm
I would , but I don't think it would help . It would almost have to be a video because I only see it when the truck is moving . If I stop, the shimmering stops too.

I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem , other than this, my graphics are very good . My grahics drivers are the newest available.

Anyone who has this problem.... or HAD it, will know exactly what I'm talking about .

For instance... When driving down the freeway and you see the huge hydro towers going across the landscape .. the connecting power lines are jumping and gittering and all broken .
I don't know how else to describe it ...:(

It sounds like you are describing an anti-aliasing issue.

think the best thing to do is to go to your graphic settings and adjust one at a time till you see the problem changing, eg anti aliasing up or down. restart the game and see if it helps.

Yeah turn off AA then see if that fixes it

Yes , It seems like an AA problem to me also . I've tweaked on all the graphic settings I can find, and nothing seems to change it .
Only thing was I dropped that "scaling " slider (in game) down to 0 , and that did make it worse!
I run iRacing with the same graphics settings, and it's perfect !

I love ETS2 , but can't keep playing it like this , it's really hard on the eyes .

Are you guys tweaking the settings on your Vid card, or just within the game itself ? I've tried both .
INSTG8R™ Dec 2, 2013 @ 5:39pm
No don't mess with your GFX cards settings. Scaling goes like this: 100% is "normal" anything above that is Down Sampling. The AA used in this game is MLAA so that is "AMD AA" if you can increase the scaling without losing FPS that is acceptable you can turn of AA in the game.

Well .. it looks like this game just does not like AMD cards .. I've done every possible thing I could in the in-game adjustment and nothing will stop the shimmering ! It's really frustrating !

Thanks anyway Guys .

I First noticed it after one of the pre Going East updates and it seems to be getting worse. It came with the update where we got some new AI traffic cars i think. I get a flickering effect on Lamp post and fenches. It's more pronounced the further something is away from me. I've also noticed that signs seem to have got harder to read. By the way i am running an I7 CPU and an EVGA GTX570 GPU (so not just AMD that are having problems.) with 6 gigs of system ram.

Thats exactly it Sonic ! Anything up close is fine ...with me , it starts about 2 truck lengths ahead . It's especially the guard rails and lamp posts and light coloured thing are worse .. Vertical straight lined things are the worst, but horizontal do it too .

Scenes in the 'far' distance seem to be OK also .

Those that don't have this problem are so lucky ..it must me pure joy to play this game then ! :) If I could get rid of this damn cursed shimmering , you couldn't pull me away from this thing !

Maybe if we keep this thread alive someone will see it that knows how to fix it ...

BTW .... my game has always had this problem ...I bought the first version out about a year ago , and just re- downloaded the 1.7.1 version from steam last week ...this problem has always been there on this machine with this game .

My card seems to be powerful enough , I'm getting 55 to 60 FPS with everything on Max .

If you get a minute, could you tell me what your in- game settings are ? Thanks

i run medium at like 40fps, hopefully that should improve when i get my 760

The game is running at the native resolution of your monitor right? If its running lower, that can cause visual issues. If the anti-aliasing doesn't help, my next look would probably be at Anisotropic Filtering.

And as an idle thought, when was the last time you updated your graphics drivers? Not a particularly fun thing to update, but out of date drivers can cause issues with everything to visual artifacts to BSOD's, and the issues will strike completely at random (often for only one or two games).
