X-Plane is a flight simulator where with the default worldwide scenery you can see every motorway, highway, and all the small streets. You can also see all the rivers, railways and power lines. So, real distances with real maps are possible.

Source for the data is OpenStreetMap (open license):

Of course, much more is needed to build sceneries. They made a great mesh and landclass (elevation data, urban areas, forests...)

You need 70Gb of hard disk space for this. And if you want photo-sceneries, detailed airport sceneries, it's much more.

Would I drive a truck in the world of X-Plane ? No. Handmade SCS sceneries with all the lovely details and landmarks look better for driving "low and slow". And I don't think I would appreciate to need more than one hour only for a small "Metz-Luxembourg" job, when there's no traffic jam.

But it would be great to be able to convert OpenStreetMap data to ETS2. Having tools like XPOSM and OSM2XP for ETS2 would be interesting to simulate real world distances and maps.

Thanks MdMax for understanding me and support my proposal or wish.
im a addicted pro flight simmer.. so i know what simulator is .. so compared that ets 2 could be more sweet with real time map cause its not sounds sim when you can travel 7-10x distance on real time .. thats kind of unrealistic..
I think simulatons means: the game feels real but doesnt really need to be good looking.
compare two games lets say grid 2 with rfactor: Rfactor is very realistic but not nice to see (simulator) and grid 2 is "very" nice to see but you can go 200km/h with a charger in a hairpin with no brakes and power slide all the way out (its a game ;))
For being able to use real distances and real maps, we would need a "real time" mod. Time goes by very fast in this game. One hour is only a few minutes.
Its a great idea, possible but would be really expensive.. I mean look at Train Sim 2014.. To get all the tracks currently made you would pay £2000 and thats a small portion of the world (like 1%)

On the other hand, if they made the map, I am sure companies such as windows, ubisoft, EA, ETC, would buy it! Because it would be a good accomplishment.

For companies such as SCS its not worth it as of now! Maybe in the future

Forgot to mention, The time would have to be real time like you said.. meaning that travelling across the map would take you 24 real hours because the trucks would have to be same to the real worlds... The loads would have to be realistic too
yes brother i play flight simulator .. there is time sycronization and also very much realistic .. where euro truck not sounds like simulator .. its a game but not simulator yet .. because the physics and other truck functions are not realistic and also many things .. and euro truck should arrage official multiplayer like we can play on LAN without online.. and without multiplayer how the hell its can be a simulator .. because .. u know .. AI or BOT can not help us to simulate trucking game like this .. its too much dissapointing .. but comparing other games .. in the market .. SCS is best so i play this game .. but i dont see its a simulator .. so yea.. i hope they will try to make it simulator in future..

No, it will never happen. Too large, too expensive, and it doesn't ADD to gameplay it makes it worse. No game player wants to sit in front of a monitor and do 8-10 hour real time missions. There isn't a game in the world that makes you do that for ONE mission. Yes, you can play many games that long, but there are always changing challenges all the time.

And you're totally misrepresenting how FSX and its environment is used by simpilots. Yes, the entire world is available, but only certain areas have very much detail, most of it is quite roughly represented and not attractive at all. Next, any pilots using a LARGE area of the FSX world use JETS. High speed vehicles that can cover thousands of miles in a few hours. No one is flying across the atlantic in a Piper Cub. Next, many pilots use the many areas of the FSX world by JUMPING to different airports using the menu system. They don't fly from London to Japan, they simply choose which ever place they want to see, and select it in the menus.

Also, a "professional simulator", such as those used by airline pilots, racing drivers, ship captains, etc. DO NOT cover VAST WORLDS. They are designed to test the reality of operational challenges in realistic situations, not to have them sit there for hours watching scenery scoot by. They do proceedures with very realistic equipment at a single airport or small area, a single racing track, or a harbor. The "realism" comes with their environmental control, not throwing them into a gigantic simuation of the planet Earth.

You are quite confused about the reality of enjoyable gaming, and the reality of FSX.
Alot of people who play these sort of games have real world jobs abd families. They just don't have 10hours plus to do one job and therefore would leave the game. This in turn would mean that SCS would have to charge the players who want to do jobs real time and have this huge map alot of money just to break even and I think the price they would need to charge would be so high that even more people would leave and SCS would never recover the cost of making it.
hello there HeavyLift .. you might forgot that i never said i i want real distance city for free they can make DLC of each city.. also the truck physics are aweful and the realism is minor .. so how its called simulator i have no idea..
