I tested OpenVR and OpenXR with my Valve Index and CPU load with OpenXR was way lower.
But i recommend to only use SMAA - high and not SMAA + TAA as that gave some weird visual effects when looking at the tachometer.
GPU load stays in the green for VR all day long, so GPU wise 80fps should be easily possible.
Sadly i experience CPU load spikes that lead to FPS reduction. There seems to be no setting that really affects those. Not sure if those are the new far shadows. But to be honest 1.49 and prior versions had similar CPU spikes mostly in towns.
thanks for those recommendations!
I changed both parameters and i'm getting excellent performance without any degradation in visual quality at all. {rtx3070, MSI GP66 laptop, VD, pico4}
I know what the "symmetrical fov" is but what is the "threaded submit"??
Not sure about it. I changed it to 0 as the VR dev here suggested for comparability with openxr toolkit and worked.
The update has been great. Seems like j am getting a slightly better performance than 1.49 but with the grand AA fix using TAA+SMAA. It does have this weird ghosting artifact when looking at the dash and the steering wheel so I believe a future update should fix this.
Far away objects and fences have far less shimmering now even on lower resolution headsets. Great work!
edit: Oh and another problem I noticed, the route advisor is not showing current speed at all :/
What does this actually do? I don't rly understand, but I'm trying it since it probably makes the performance better, right?
I do know my mirrors are not properly showing shadows in tunnels at all now.
Dunno how to fix that as none of the mirror quality or shadow qualities seem to change that.
Also, at sunset times, the fence shadows that are like, 20 meters away from you and stuff still barely render. It's very noticeable when going through highways. I think that's just an unfixable VR thing tho.
yeah, I noticed the same thing with mine. Quest 3 user here.
It would be great to found simple performance monitoring tool like steam gpu monitor in developer setting. Could anyone advise something relevant?
I`m trying to improve picture quality and tune the performance on my 4090 and playing with ingame scale option and uset r_manual_stereo_buffer_scale in config.cfg. Which option is getting better picture with less costs?
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 227300 -oculus
It seems to work fine with my 3080ti and quest 2, much like 1.49. I do use a cable instead of wifi for quest link.
Using an icon on my desktop like this also allows me to open the ets2 app in "flat-screen" mode because the "-oculus" parameter is configured in the desktop icon and not in steam itself. And because the beta "vr" version of ets2 is basically the same as the normal version, I can open it flat-screen if I'm testing/configuring workshop items, etc., without changing betas or command line parameters in steam.
I haven't tested openvr or openxr, but I might try them. (You can easily set up multiple icons with different command line parameters.)
(Note, you can also do this with ATS, the application number is 270880 for ATS)
I also experienced that OpenVR and OpenXR perform much worse through Steam than on the Oculus interface.
it's funny, because until version 1.49 I experienced the exact opposite.
