I think the furthest I can get is Luxembourg right now.
I've been trying to find time to level up as well (work keeping me very busy), but I don't think I'll have enough time before the event is over...
if you can't get from CH to a far-away country, you can't get from that far-away country to CH either.
Yes, distance definitely works both ways. Plus I can sort jobs by route length and none of them would reach far enough if they went in the right direction. I've also gone to both Switzerland and other countries to refresh ad nauseam with no success besides the 4 I was able to complete.
Also, I'm only new-ish to ETS (~90 hours) with only 3 points in distance, most of my points are in high value and fragile cargo. But I've also got almost 650 hours in ATS, so I do know the tricks around events. It's just this one is quite different than most due to the strange skill requirement.
You can get the necessary experience points very quickly by using mods or editing the save file. There is no need for endless grinding.
If you worry about damaging your original profile just start a second one and use that.
Yeah, I'm considering that if I can't get enough skill points by the end of the event, but my preference is to do it without "cheating" per se.
