Status of the game engine (Prism 3D)
It's been 23 years since the first game on this engine, 12 years since this game launched on this engine.

Looking at the graphics of the game, its noticable the engine is getting old and the performance it's giving is sub-par for what we come to expect of modern games and their engines.

I am aware the engine has changed over the last 23/12 years, updated, upgraded, improved. I've read there are plans to rewrite/rework core parts of the engine. I wonder how that's going and what parts exactly. I don't think a few pipeline updates for newer rendering API's and graphical effects will be enough. Over the years the gaming industry has gone full speed ahead with amazing optimization techniques, allowing for very impressive games like MSFS.

I feel like more drastic changes might need to be made, I don't see ETS2 going for another 10 years like this.

Who cares!! You either enjoy playing the sim or you don't. What is it with people tearing the turf up over whom is right or wrong. Again, Who cares?! None of you are qualified to speak on behalf of SCS unless you are a Developer working for that company. I see this sort of thing all the time on here. It is nonsense. Enjoy the game for what it is and live in hope that SCS continue to support the best Truck driving simulator out there.

Just fyi a game with Unreal engine or any more modern engine can easily be worse than ETS2. For example Bus Simulator 21 has Unreal engine but looks worse and also runs worse than ETS2 while at the same time is a terrible game.

Normally i would be the first to complain about ETS2 being outdated but you can't imagine how many overpriced games are much worse out there. Anyway since SCS is working on it i assume they know about it.

The main improvement in s DX12 engine will no doubt be performance.

... It allows for DLSS implementation and will hopefully sllow more than 2 CPU cores to be utilised.

But... they should also be introducing 10 bit graphics with HDR support.

Firstly, this negates need for filters which hit performance, like the the new nVidia App HDR filter....

And Secondly, it massively improves colour bamding... which currently is very obvious in the sky at dusk/dawn, even on a high quality TV screen.

I'm not a coder, don't want to be a coder and have no interest in coding.

It's just chuffin common sense !

The reason this game still looks and runs like crud, is because WE ... including ME .. keep throwing money at them for DLCs... instead of downing tools and complaining.

No. The game runs like crap for some because there are people with hardware from 12 years ago who expect to run the game in the highest settings at 500 FPS. Which is just not possible.
And the money for the DLCs not only funds future DLCs but also any map reworks and works on the game engine and such.

Well said Wolfgang. Point made.
A'ight. Just confirming and adding to what I posted not more than 10 minutes ago. This kind of topic about graphics / engine / AA / etc generally brings too kind of users complaining:

- The ones bragging about their last generation setups, but who still rely on software options instead of using the ones available for the graphic card tools

- The ones with setups as old as the game who think only updating the game engine will magically make the game look real-life-like, and run as smooth as it was running before

I completely agree that the game needs improvement and general improvements
