Does it matter what truck i give to my drivers?
Will my drivers work faster if i give them faster trucks?

nope, the truck doesn't make a bit of difference. get them whatever you want

I wonder if there's a difference in, say, maintenance costs.

As far as I know the AI drivers are a script that runs behind the scenes, and currently it is NOT impacted by the truck speed, horsepower, torque, etc. So for highest cost-efficiency giving them the cheapest more stripped down truck works.

Having said that, it's more fun and flavorful to give them something better, and also affords you the option to hop into a somewhat nicer truck and drive it for a change of pace.

I wonder if the 4x2 trucks with lower powered engines, would inhibit the particular jobs available to that driver, as opposed to 6x4 with bigger engines.

Absolutely no effect, they'll take and handle 25 ton loads in a 360hp truck, because they aren't actually driving on the road.
Ideally SCS will change this in the future so the truck factors in, but at the moment it doesn't.

It would be odd though, if the hired driver could take a 25ton load with a 4x2 truck, because a single axle (for us the human players) is 11ton? Does it give that info anywhere in ETS2 documentation?

I'm playing vanilla with no mods. From what I've seen, and what I've read on this forum and others there isn't a difference.

I drive a 460hp 4x2 Iveco Hi-Way and take 25-ton loads all the time (and did even when I had the base 310hp engine). Maybe I'm misunderstanding or not seeing where you're getting that 11 ton number?

I've always had 6x4 chassis. But I read in another thread some time ago when the liftable axles were introduced, that people were saying the axle automatically dropped (to make two axles on the ground) whenever a load greater than 11.5ton was loaded?

Ah I haven't experimented with the droppable axles yet, so I don't know how they perform. I just know you can take any load in the game with a junky 4x2 truck with the horsepower of a lawnmower :)

I would suspect that the "hired drivers script" for want of a better term, is as simple as it can be. That would be good coding practice, but how far do the drivers travel in search of a job? When they return to their "home garage", do they automatically rest and reset to "zero" before taking on a new job? Do they fill the fuel tank at a large garage in preference over a filling station?
So many vexing questions :D

Tell me about it! For such a key part of the game you think there would be more documentation on it. Ideally the script would be editable and/or configurable, or vary by driver, or something.

sorry, your results were purely psychological. you thought they did better because you thought they should.

It has been confirmed by the developers that the truck makes zero difference.

ROFL filthy casuals.......EVERYWHERE. I drive around all the time with the 300hpish volvo fh10 mod, pulling the baobob trees (60tons).

We're actually talking about the scripted hired drivers and how their jobs are or aren't affected by truck choice.
chebonaparte Dec 10, 2014 @ 8:15pm
so far some of my moderate skill drivers have made more profits per week and daily than higher skilled drivers. ive varied garages some have all exact truck others mixed. i just reward my most profitable or farthest distance driven drivers just roleplaying lol with paint and bells! Some of the new drivers look like serial killers! ;)
