No mods are any good, and they tend to mess up your base game after what I've heard.

Thats why you backup your profile.

Backups are too complicated for my relatively low IQ.

Oh right ok, It is easy you just make a copy of your profile with winRAR.

How do I do that?

If you watch this video you will see how to back up your profile and install mods.

I don't understand stuff like that, and mods will only mess up my computer anyway. Better keep it clean and not cheat.

They don't mess your computer up, as I say thats why you do a backup of your profile. Up to you I personally like mods but if you want to not cheat then thats fine.

Running the game with mods is not an issue, you just need to be aware of how to rectify mistakes. For your info Ottis, you can backup your save using steam. Go into properties - local files - backup game files and follow the intructions.
Also, many mods rely on your having the Going East expansion, just so you know.

As for op question, i would recommend:
Jazzycat ai / traffic packs
Brutal Enviroment
Small Mirrors
Promods or TSM (map mods, i use promods but im sure TSM is just as good, not tried myself) both of these add a substantial amount of countries and road networks and really enhance the game
Scania T (a superb mod truck)
No Toll barriers (essential if you use mod trucks, ie the Scania T)

There are a host of other skin / logo / wheels mods and packs but i feel they are down to your own personal taste.

I have found http://ets2downloads.com/ to be a reliable and safe scource of mods, note that Promods (and i think TSM ?...) needs to be dl from the promods site - http://www.promods.net/

The last thing i would say is that IF you do run mods, the map ones are the mods most likely to cause issues upon big game updates. For example i am waiting on Promods to update for 1.14 compatability. As long as you know what to expect, it shouldnt be an issue.
Have fun modding and trucking ;) :longhaul:

Btw mods aren't cheats.

I'm avoiding map mods, and truck mods.

Using;
Improved Weather (Reloaded)
EuroPolice
Ambulance
Firetruck
Company Vans
Real Company Name (first version)
Essential Mod

I believe that's all.
