Game crashes when opened using OpenGL, please help [FIXED]
Sorry for posting about this as I know some people are getting a little tired of these posts. I have tried to use other posts to help with my situation here and on SCS website, although they have helped pin point things I haven't got a solution to my problem.

So my game crashes when it is opened using OpenGL, when I get to my driver pause menu and click the drive button it crashes the game.
Bit of background info, I have played this game for about a year and used to play in DirectX mode but it kept lagging and stuttering so I gave up with it and tried OpenGL and the game worked great. So when I found out about Scandinavia DLC I wanted to get it, so I did (and update 1.17) and went to boot the game to find it had crashed. So I tried DirectX but still it has major lag, resulting in it being unplayable.

I already run the game at the lowest settings I can and also I do not run with any mods only official DLC.

My game.log: (Error section)

00:00:00.887 : <ERROR> [gl] wglCreateContextAttribs (3_3): FAIL (0xc0072095)

My crash.log: (Error section)

Fault address: 000007FEEC7D0279 0001:0003F279 C:\windows\system32\ig4icd64.dll

I do play the game on a laptop, Intel Core i5-2450M @ 2.50GHz, 6gb RAM and Intel HD Graphics 3000 (updated as recent as I can)

Any help would be appreciated. (I am not expecting the game to run on super graphics with no issues, I would just like it to run like it did but still be able to try out the new expansion)

Again sorry for posting another discussion about this.

(P.S. I forgot to mention that I have also verified the game cache and also have done a complete reinstall of the game and still the same results)

ig4icd64.dll is the OpenGL driver for the Intel graphics.

I know nothing about Intel graphics chips and have very little experience with OpenGL on Windows, but I googled your error. From reports of similar errors in other games, it looks like it's because the game is using graphic features that aren't support by the chip. It's for that very reason integrated graphics aren't supported for almost any game and isn't recommended at all.

You may, unfortunately, be out of luck, but first step is always to double-check for new drivers for everything. Then try launching the game in Safe Mode.

Safe mode reset the graphics to minimum (afaik, never actually used it), and if it works for you, then the most likely sinner is the new lighting (sunshafts in the settings) and possibly the new higher detail shadows. If you turn both lighting and shadow all the way down to minimum (or off), then you can try again. If it still crashes, then I'm out of ideas.

T&L (transformations and lighting) and pretty shadows (which require Shaders support) are normally what kills games in integrated graphics, and SCS just changed how both those are used with 1.17.

Bingo.
"Our performance tests with the high clocked mainstream version of the HD Graphics 3000 in quad-core processors showed a performance level on par with older entry level generations from NVIDIA (e.g. GeForce 310M)"
Minimum reuirements have changed for ETS2 in the recent months. GeForce450 class is the entry level. And your cPU appears to be Duo-core, not quad, so the paragraph above is explaining a situation better than yours.

and if your graphics chipset has a 64bit bus (Graphics 3000 have 64/128bit) then that's why it stutters and lags.

Ah right, well thank you for responding. I have tried running in safe mode but I get the same lagging as I did with DirectX. I did think that it might now be the case where the game is too updated for my computer to handle. Its a shame but oh well not much can be done. But thank you both for getting back to me, I do know intergrated chips aren't the most favoured out there in the gaming community, but thank you for researching into it to try and help find a solution.
Hope you are both enjoying the new expansion if you both have it, as it does look great :)

You could try assigning more system RAM to the graphics?

How do you do that?

[Edit: I just had a quick look up to see if it was possible but pretty much everyone is saying its not really possible. But thats fine, thank you again for all your help and suggestions]

You'll have to check the BIOS to see if it's possible. Most 'shared ram' situations let you choose an amount to dedicate to graphics. 32M, 64M, 128M and 256M are common choices. But even 256Mb of VRAM isn't a lot these days.

Okay so I think I may have managed to fix the issue. It might be a simple fix and I have only tested it for a a little bit. I went into the programfilesx86/steam/steamapps/common/eurotrucksimulator2/bin/win_x64 and right clicked on the properties of the application file and forced it to run in admin mode.
I tried openGL again but it failed, though now (so far) it runs DirectX much smoother and I was able to pull a whole trip; ~3hr (in-game time) trip without any stuttering at all. (Hopefully I have not jinxed myself by saying this)

This may not work for everyone but hopefully if someone else comes across this problem maybe this could be a solution.

And a big thanks again to everyone who helped on this post. :D

Happy Euro Trucking!

[Edit: After a few deliveries in a row it is still working fine]
