40mph (64km/h) on 2 lane roads - soon to be 50mph (80km/h) IRL
50mph (80km/h) on dual carriageway A roads (4+ lanes)
60mph (96km/h) on motorways

Been this way since I've been driving, and those are the limits for any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes I believe, only cars/vans are 70mph on motorways/A roads.

I never thought HVGs were restrcited to 60 on a 70MPH road in the UK?

EDIT: Ok so dual carrieways they are.

but not motorways.

This is irrelevant as pretty much every UK HGV is electronically restricted to 54mph anyways.

The UK speed limits for HGVs are different in Scotland than England.

The current limits in the UK are:

England/Wales: Built up areas 30mph - Single lanes 50mph - Dual Carriage ways and motorways 60mph

Scotland (and possibly NIreland): Built up areas 30mph - Single lanes 40mph - Dual Carriage ways 50mph - motorways 60mph

But as stated all modern trucks are limited to 56mph max (sometimes lower optionally). Older trucks that don't have limiters can observe the maximum speed of 60 where appropriate.

UK highway law in England and Wales, trucks over 7.5t have 3 different limits, unless stated otherwise by a sign its:
-city, buildup areas 30mph
-single carriage way (out of city) 50mph
-dual carriage way (out of city) 60mph
-motorways 60mph (trucks don't even drive that speed due to EU speed limiter so you get around 56 max out of them)
Plus on motorways with 3 or more lanes, trucks can only use 2 left lanes unless stated otherwise by a sign

When I was an agency driver, I drove a truck that had the older physical limiter removed. I brought it up to the company, and they just said "yeah, we did that." and that was the last time I ever drove for them.

But now it's all electronic, and if you're found to have removed or tampered with the limiter (which is damn damn difficult) you're in big trouble.
