Can verify this, has happened several times - i took it to mean it was like an accident scene or something. This isn't new to the update.
Pop in and out in mirrors is much worse now, regardless of settings. Messed around with it extensively, no difference. Trees just sort of vacuum out of existence. Does not affect cars and road signs.
Police? You mean the speed cameras? Wish we had actual police cars, that would be cool and truly immersive, but lots of work for SCS so understood why we don't have them. Unless i'm missing something!
In "..\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2", open config.cfg (it's a text file)
find the line:
uset r_mirror_view_distance
change its value to 500.
Save the file.
Thanks a lot, just did this and tested it. My config file for some reason didn't have this line, so added it manually. Seems to have made things better, though not entirely, it takes longer for the trees to "woosh" out of existence, but they still do. Far less noticeable. It did cause screen tearing, which of course was fixed by forcing vsync so no problem there.
Thanks a lot!
The .cfg file that's in your Documents\ETS2 folder is global. There's also one for each of your profiles in their respective folders. Change the global one.
This worked for me too. Thanks!
Yes, did change the global one, but will look for the other config files as well, why not? ^_^
It's not a game breaker anyway, and i really appreciate you taking the time to post this fix!
If you're looking in your mirrors too much, you're not looking where you're going ;)
Thanks for this suggestion, it worked wonderfully for me, changed it from "160" to "500"
And now on the highways I'm seeing traffic move over in front of me, slow down, then move back over and speed away...
This patch everything got a lot more realistic.... before this patch i could race through the gears like i was in a F1 car.... in reality its a lot more difficult and slow procces in a heavy truck, the slowing down of the gear changes is feature not a bug...
same with the understeer and brake lag everyone is talking about...
Now when you take a bend you can feel the trailer pushing you.. if its a tightish turn and you have enough angle you can feel the trailer trying to push the tractor unit side ways...
Breaking.... again .. its simulating the weight you are carrying, you dont stop 30/40 tons of truck like an F1 car....
ive never drove a HGV but my step father was and is a trucker, i used to go many times on long hauls with him and this sim is doing a decent job of replicating that ATM... ok its still not super but its getting better....
i remember once i passed him a cup of tea while he pulled off a junction on to highway, he got quite cross and said NOT NOW!... he latter explained these trucks are have so many gears you have to wind her up to get her up to speed ASAP... and to make things even more complicated the engine and box are VERY RPM dependant... timing gear changes at rpms to get the change in.... there is a hell of a lot of toruqe going through a gearbox on a truck, its not like a car... screw your RPMs up your tring to find a gear that isnt there... slowing you further.... further screwweing up your gearing, i quickly learned that these situations were a very buisy time for a truck driver...
i remember him on many occasions angry when a car pulled out on him, he would say if they ever drove somthing this big and this heavy they wouldnt do that!.. stopping that huge weight isnt done in the blink of an eye, its takes a hell of a lot to stop a truck.
Except that it's not feeling more realistic. When using automatic transmission there is an issue when starting out from a stop: The transmission starts in 3rd or 5th, I get about 1/2 second of acceleration and then it drops, hits for another 1/2 second of accel, then drops, does this about 4 or 5 times then finally keeps the gas on and moves. Sometimes can't get moving before the light changes back to red!
Also, I've watched on a slight incline, it gets to the top of 7th gear, then switches up to 9th, which is too high a gear for the speed, lugs a couple seconds, switches back to 7th, which is wound up to the shift point, shifts back again to 9th, lugs, back again to 7th.... This is very frustrating.
Same, now that you mention it there seem to be no peds anywhere, and i don't mean pedophiles. That lorry with the plastic tubing in the back always seemed fishy to me...but anyway, pedestrians seem to be gone, including road crews and wheelchair person, which was very touching that the team thought of adding in the first place.
