How is this to play with a mouse and keyboard?
Title pretty much says it all, I dont have a controller for my pc, nor do I have a steering wheel setup. Was wondering if its worth playing without a controller. Thanks for any replies. :squirtooh:

It's so accurate. With the keyboard you accelerate and brake and with the mouse you control the steering and it's so easy because you control how much you're going to the right and left.

I've been using the mouse to steer since I first started playing ETS2. For me, it's perfect.
Binding "CC Resume" to LMB, high/low beam to RMB and CC +/- to the scroll wheel, works really well. But that's just me.
Two things though:
1) You need to mess about with the "steering sensitivy" and the slider below it in the options menu (I forget the name of it but it's something like "reality steering" or something) in order to find that "sweet spot" of being able to make small steering adjustments while driving, while at the same time not making the wheel turn so slowly that you can't make quick turns.
2) Having the brakes activated by the keyboard means that everytime you brake, you are braking at 100%. I drive heavy trucks for a living and "tapping" the brake pedal lightly, numerous times to come to a stop is called "fanning the brakes" and it's bad practice because it uses a lot of air. You can reduce the sensitivity of the brakes in the options, but that also means that under heavy load and having to brake suddenly, your stoppers aren't as effective as they should be and you'll end up shortening someon's car by a couple of feet.
And that's never good :D

Hope this helps.

This is why I use the engine brake. A LOT! Using this keeps you from using your regular brakes, helps when you need to slow down or going down a hill (that hill south of Krakow, Poland comes to mind).

Yes, but I was meaning that the keyboard isn't as subtle as a pedal on a steering wheel kit. Also, with a steering wheel kit you can change options from "simple automatic" to "manual", meaning with a physical gear stick (on the wheel kit) you can "drop back" a gear or two to slow down as well.
Yes, you can do this with a keyboard as well, but it isn't as 'ergonomic' :D

I have shift up and shift down as left and right mouse buttons and the mouse wheel is the retarder, which I use to brake probably 90% of the time.

Also, I have a logitec controller and prefer to use the mouse and keyboard for this game.

I play with just the keyboard even though I have a controller, it's great. I like not using the mouse to steer so that I can look around much more easily. Steering with the keyboard is no problem.

I play since i play ETS 2 and that's 1132h off trucking ago and it's all with keyboard!! And i like it even i drove ETS 2 with a G27 sometime's ( that is kicking-awsome-driving ) but i like it with keyboard. If you drive it smoothly with that and with no accident's,you shurly can drive with all off it. So,like the rest. Go ahead and allot off truck plesure.
