Tag or Mid lift axle?
What is the difference other than what wheels lift? Is there an actual difference to what jobs you get and what you can carry? or is it just a driver preference thing?

Lifted axle
- more traction on soft ground (quarry, dirt, ...)
- smaller turn radius
- less wear & tear on the tyres

Lowered axle
- more stability with trailer with a center of gravity up high or unsettled (tank, sand & gravel)
- increased trailer load

PS : Since realism is only partially implemented in the game, these are more or less true.

I find that with the rear part of the two back axles being the adjustable, you'll get a wheelie type movement if it's up.. My point being from an amateur players point of view. Would say that it's fun to just see what works for you.

It seems the wheelie thing is a mistake from the dev. When the axle is lifted, the fifth wheel should be moved backward (or forward) to stay on top of the wheels still on the ground.

Theres a couple of videos showing people popping wheelies lol

From what I can work out; Mid lift is more stable with a load yet has a larger turning circle whereas Tag is less stable with a load when raised and has a smaller turning circle whilst providing better traction.

Thank you for the responses everyone :) much appreciated. from what ive read, im going to stick with the mid-lift axle. thought I may be missing out on something not using a rear lift. Could the wheelies just be the mistake of the player mis-using the rear lift? maybe too light a load under too much power input?

I believe it to be a realistic feature as it goes, as I forgot to mention before, I was carrying a load which of course make the front end lift up. From reading discussions of real truckers, this does actually happen usually around high acceleration such as pulling away.

It's rare that the fifth is moved, tags are generally only lifted on empty trailers/light load or when bobtailing with no trailer. They are always lowered when a trailer with a large load is placed on them, generally this happens automatically or will give the driver a warning that the load is to great for the lifted axel.

The rear Tag shuld not go up under load. That is a safety feature to stop wheelie. If you hook up to a loaded trailer with tag up it will lower it`s self to carry the weight. Lifting tag is not a live axel (powered) so lifting it allows More weight on drive axel better traction only with part load or empty trailer and saves tyre wear.
Centre tag is the same as rear, but because it`s a single wheel steerer and is rated at 7 Tonne in the UK like front axel. The only falut with this is a loss of traction over the brow of hills at low speed.
Sliding fith wheels are used to balance axel weights on units. Some trailers can be heavy on the pin, so if the pin is near front of trailer after hook up you can slide forward to have more weight on front axel.
This means that they are all ways of carrying large and heavy loads safely with the least amoumt of fuss
