Steering wheel not centered by default
It would be nice if the game allowed to set the "current" position of the steering wheel as centered.

Because, even if I look at the wheel with test software out of the game, and the wheel is absolutely and correctly centered, the game sees it a little bit to one side - and I have to increase the deadzone to eat that bias away. This makes the wheel a bit unresponsive.

There was a perl script in the game forums (and in a guide here) for creating a virtual controller to cheat the game to use the wheel correctly, but for me that one only causes it to be off center to the other direction.

This problem also occured to me. And I go to create a new profile to play, this problem DOES NOT appear in the new profile .... Then, I go back to open the old profile ... the problem occurs inside the old profile again .... and cannot be solved by myself ....

Finally, I play the new profile instead ~ as my old profile only got level 15 more or less ~~ DELETE it forever ~

^___^

However, I don't know the problem and cannot solve it "IF" it appears again.....
Hope anyone can help ~

I wonder if it's possible to cheat the configuration wizard. If the game thinks the wheel is not centered, try again and turn the wheel slightly to the opposite direction to balance it out.

I also wonder if there are something wrong inside the profile data .... but I don't know so many files ...

Thank you for the replies. I tried a new profile, but it did not help for me. I also tried to cheat the wizard by turning the wheel before starting it, but it had no effect - it saw it as if I had started to turn the wheel only after starting the wizard.

For your infomation, this is my CURRENT experience ....

I am using Logitech DFGT. Before I start the game, I have plug-in and setup the wheel. Then, after the game started and the screen was at the driver seat view. I can see my wheel is not centered on the screen. At this moment, what I do is that I turn the wheel to the end of left and re-turn the wheel to the end of right (i.e. make the wheel 100% turn, e.g. 900 degree or 765 degree based on your setting).

And finally, the wheel on the screen will become synchronized with my DFGT (i.e. centered already) and so I can start to enjoy my driving life ....

Hi I think I had the same problem as you, where IRL the wheel is centered but in game is slightly off, this is the solution I use ( takes literally 1 min ) and it works every time for me.

Just go into the settings to the tab to the CONTROLS tab, go down to the steering axis and change it by clicking on the wheel axis (on the right side by example Logitech G29 axis)

and change it to the gas pedal (propably doesn't matter just to have it changed) then change it back to the wheel by when it askes for the new input steering all the way to the right so it nows the max angle, after it registered the wheel as the new input,

center the wheel IRL and the yellow line should be centered in game to. This should have worked first time, if not try again

and at last you have to reregister the gas pedal since u used it for the trick or you'll won't drive very far.

anyway if this worked for you ( or if it didn't) leave a reply so others can be helped

thanks, a friendly trucker hoping to be usefull to others

Thanks for the reply. My question was almost five years old ... if I will play this game in the future, and if there is still a problem with the wheel, I might remember your tip. :signix:

No problem
I just started playing recently but better a solution late then never I guess

If you need it in the future let me know how it worked out for you

Have fun driving

Another (easier) thing to do which may help is just 'calibrate' your wheel prior to starting the game by rotating the wheel lock to lock (and also pressing each pedal to the max)

(and on Logitech wheels atleast this is easily done if you open the 'game controllers>properties' section through the profiler, where you have visual representation as well)

I know this is a 6 year old question and I'm sorry for the bump
But this fixed it!
Thank you.

I know this is a very old post but, this method works and i hope more people who get this "error" will fix it: go to controls, and if u scroll down u should see a yellow line at the steering wheel. below that line u will see something called deadzone. move it a little bit so it would be centered.

Yes that fixed it for me also as I also have a DFGT wheel
Thank you so much

For anyone with a Thrustmaster T128:
I was only able to fix this using the wheel's built in center correction which is explained here (pdf)[ts.thrustmaster.com]

In short:
Of the five buttons at the center of the wheel, press and hold the top left, bottom left and bottom right buttons at the same time for five seconds until all the leds blink once.

After the first attempt and after seeing by how much you're still off-center, start from the position where you last pressed the buttons and from that point turn the wheel by the amount your in-game wheel was still off-center, in the opposite direction of course, and repeat.

Not a perfect solution (because it carries over to other games that don't have that issue) but at least it's fast and easy.

Edit: by the way, upgrading the firmware to version 4.76 (I have the PlayStation wheel, don't know if this is also true for the XBox version) you can bind and use the PlayStation button! Finally.
