How to change or make engines for mod trucks?
Can you edit engine settings for truck mods? Dled the Kenworth 900a truck with the detroit dieseI but want to change engine values to make it realistic. I have only been able to find the original game trucks files inside base and def folders. Suggestions?

Engine files for trucks are found in:
def\vehicle\truck\truck-name\engine
inside the mod scs

"change engine values to make it realistic"
more information please?

do you mean you want to make it less realistic? Do you want more power, or is it one of the ridiculous mods that have one of the 1000hp motors so you want to reduce it to a more realisic amount?

The engine files for the kenworth are not in Def folder. Im looking to change torque range values and output so it acts like a real 2 stroke instead of just sounding like one if you understand. Maybe some tweaks to max rpm if possible.

You opened the mod in WinRAR right? They are definitely in there... head to the directory rom217au mentioned and there will be a seperate folder for each engine with a corresponding .sii file in each of those.

Ugh thank you, found it using WinRAR.

The only value, engine-performance-wise, is the torque. AFAIK, you can't change the powerband, you can only change the amount of torque. Since v1.17 you can add a parameter called "engine_rpm_limit" (or it may be simply "rpm_limit") to an engine file and limit the rpm to whatever figure you want. I believe the default is 2200rpm.
Having said that, I haven't seen evidence of this parameter - but I haven't looked lately either.

Any line in the engine .sii file that begins with info[ ] is merely for display purposes and has no bearing on the game, in terms of the way the truck behaves.

The sound the engine makes, comes from three other folders:

"def\vehicle\truck\truck-name\sound" which contains internal.sii and external.sii (possibly others depending on truck make)

"sound\truck\truck-name\int"
"sound\truck\truck-name\ext"
are the default folders which contain the sound files. The two .sii sound files mentioned above, point to these two folders.

In the Kenworth's case they may contain:
"sound\truck\truck-name\cat\int"
"sound\truck\truck-name\cat\ext"
instead. They'll reflect the folders specified in the internal.sii and external.sii

Sound definition files can be rather tricky so it's a good idea to study how they're written before hacking them to pieces with a scalpel :)

Incidentally, why do you want a 9ton truck with a Cummins/Cat engine to sound like a 2-stroke?

Look at the DAF Euro 6. It actually has the value. I haven't looked at the New Actros though. I find the default engines suffice for the trailers I use.

Anyway, that aside. I don't know what truck mod you use, but it is likely to be in the DEF folder somewhere. Or, you can provide a link and one of us can take a quick look perhaps. And before you begin, always keep a backup handy of the original files, in case something breaks.

I did see the parameter in one of the trucks in v1.17, but can't remember which.

Just unpacked latest def's.
DAF XF Euro6 is limited to 2200, but not the XF.
Actros 2014 limited to 2300, but not the 2009 model.
None of the other game trucks have the parameter present. But I'm sure that if you want, you can add it.
I suspect the limit is for the engine brake sending the rpm into the stratosphere when hitting it at 110kph or some such.

I have two trucks, KW T800 and the (now v1.3) Scania RJL. Neither of those have the rpm_limit included.

hehe Yeah. I have 'trucks', 'trailers', 'tuning' folders on an expansion drive where the originally d'loaded files live.

where to find the engine details now for ets2 1.39 version?

def files: def\vehicle\truck\brand.model\engine
