Savegame lost

Hello there - so I just lost my savegame.
Also my settings.
Is this normal?

check your system restore. do you shutdown ur Pc every night. if so i think your computer save an restore point.

It beggars belief how save games just up and walk away, because they don't. Files go corrupt, yes, but they just don't remove themselves. Manual deletion ('delete local content' for example), reformatting, or reinstalling OS/Steam without proper backup will do this. Creating a new profile with the same name will also likely cause this sort of stuff.

Thanks for your answers. You're right, my savegames (the data in my \Documents\ETS2\profiles) weren't deleted - but I can't use it ingame, it just tells me there are no profiles. Can anybody help me out with this? Or have I lost my savegame forever? Thanks in advance.

Move the entire ETS2 folder out of My Documents (don't delete it obviously), and start the game. The game should have you create a new profile, after which you can exit the game and move the original folder back replacing the one that was just created. I'd recommend copying not cutting the folder when you move it back, this way you know it'll be backed up.

not worked here at all, profile is still visible in the documents folder, game just ignores it after start tells me to make a new profile...30 hours gametime gone, neither overwriting backup from external HDD or anything helps. third world programming, i know who's american truck simulator i not gonna buy...

It's just fine for all the other players. Not sure why you think the game is the issue. There are people with thousands of hours logged.

From the time it was working to the time they stopped, what did you do? Some change was made to your computer and/or the game. Did you update something? Did you delete something? On the lines of deletion, did you use mods? Did you change those mods in any way? And yes... The multiplayer is a mod (not supported by developers). It seems like 99% of all problems people have are because of playing with mods....

Think back and I'm sure you'll figure it out. Good luck!

Gotta defend him though - when I had the issue, I never used any mods or ets2mp before. Nor did I (re-)install Steam. It just came out of nowhere - the game wouldn't recognize my profiles anymore. But UrsidaeClay's fix worked for me.
