anyway, you do have to download the steam version of the game, so you may as well uninstall the original install. Just make sure you backup the profiles folder. It's located in > Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\Profiles. Or just back up that whole ETS2 folder. That has your game saves and other settings and any mods you have.
Steam definately isn't giving you a virus. Maybe a quarantined another file you had already downloaded?
and just for your peace of mind, a lot of programs will recommend you disable your AV when installing because some can screw up installations or just make false alerts during install.
the poster owns the game, you can tell by the little mouse symbol nest to their name when they post in a forum. It's not showing up in their account for you because it's not installed.
