The 6x2 taglift has a liftable rear axle that allows the truck to carry a heavier load. It adds stability, but it's not a drive axle. Again, it can be lifted when not needed to save on tire wear.
In real life, you have to have a certain axle setup to carry certain load weights in the EU, this is essentiallty what these axles are for, but in game, as there is no load limit for your truck setup, they're only an added feature. They do change how the truck handles, and apparently tire wear will be a big feature in the game in future.
