- the short explanation why, is that the game-world was not built for it. There are many places, just off the roadways, that look like solid objects that you could walk on, that have no collision properties, and you literally just fall through the "ground" in to oblivion. This is why there are "invisible walls" all around the game-world, to prevent you falling through.
