Why would I want to play the game on your iPad?

Jokes aside, this is only going to work if you are streaming it over your PC. Which means that the game is running on your PC but this is broadcasted to your device. At which point it is simpler to play the game just directly on your PC.

Thanks for your replies and I take Wolfgangs point as a good reason not to want to which leads me round to ask what is the benefit of the Steam App on my IPad, are there any games you can play without involving a PC?

None that aren't also in the App Store. The Steam App on mobile is more for two factor authentification and checking the community and news for the games (and whishlisting games in the Store).
