Good truck for Special Transports?
I bought the Special transports DLC (the one with escort vehicles) several months ago but haven't actually dived into that sort or transports yet.

If I use my own truck for such a transport, what is a good truck? What characteristics are important? Engine power and/or torque? Transmission ratios? Maneuverability (4x2 or more?)?

It looks like that the special transports definitely are oversize in terms of width, length and/or height but not necessarily extremely heavy.

Maybe impressive look like an 8x6 chassi with lots of accessories and tasteless paintjob :-)

I once did a special transport with an entry level Mercedes, so its doable with any truck I guess.
But I would go with as much torque as possible for easiest job.

Torque and some driven axles to get that torque to the ground. While it may be possible with a base engine and 4x2, I'd say something in the mid-500 horsepower range and 6x4. Torque and horsepower are physically linked. Not technically in the game though, but nevertheless a 530-570 hp engine should result in sufficient torque. That's what I usually see out on the road as well for those heavy special transports. Only very few exceed 600 hp. And even fewer have 4 axle tractor units.

There are few "light" (20~25t) while the rest is "heavy" (40~70t) and even if I went with a Volvo, 750HP, 6x2 Taglift, Allison, had no troubles other than the usual know ones with escort cars and or traffic stuck with you. Practice will get rid of both anyway : )

The more HP the better but you don't always need the top of the top,
You'll benefit from the transmission with the most gears. Usually the bottom most option with a retarder will send your "heavy cargo" stat to the far right.
That retarder will come in handy coasting downhill with 50 tons pushing you downhill.

If you want to flip the table and never have to worry go with a 750hp 12+2 Volvo FH 2012 6x4 or 8x4, that thing can haul a heat exchanger like 120kmh uphill if given enough time to accelerate. My first few runs I actually lost a few jobs for colliding with the pilot vehicle which is actually scripted to match your speed or faster.

Horespower is meaningless - okay, usually the more hp, the more torque, so it is an indicator. To haul heavy stuff you need torque. Or as the motoring philosopher said: "Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you drag the wall with you..."
