Truck is inconsistent with reversing speed.
I assume there's a mechanic I'm missing here - I bought the new Volvo FH6 on release but the truck seems to cap out at reversing speed of ~10km/h sometimes, but then other times it will allow me to go up to 30km/h.

This doesn't appear to be a situation in which it allows faster going downhill or anything like that, as I've noticed it several times going uphill specifically. I typically play with transmission set to simple automatic but I've tried toggling basically every option in the transmission and controller settings.

Any ideas?

Which transmission are you using? Some of them have more than one reverse gear.

It's the "I-Shift ATO3812G R + ASO-ULC". It does have more than one reverse gear, but since making the post I have noticed on the dashboard that when it's maxed at ~10km/h I'm in R2 whereas when it 'unlocks' and I go 30km/h+ it's R3.

I just can't get it to go into R3 reliably, it just seems to randomly do that and go above 10 like 25% of the time.

If it's an auto box, it should be shifting to a higher speed gear when it reaches maximum revs, as it would in forward gear. If you only use a small amount of throttle for reversing, it probably isn't getting to high enough revs to shift gear. Why do you need to reverse so fast? Sounds like a recipe for disaster!

It does not reliably switch into R3/R4 regardless of the amount of throttle I use, uphill/downhill, straight, turns etc. Maybe 25% of the time it will click into R3/R4 and just 'work'. Or if I change to sequential shifting I can manually force it, but I don't want to have to do that. It certainly feels like a bug. Unless I'm missing a setting or something.

As for why - I'm currently trying to 100% the map, which involves a lot of doubling back on myself for small pieces of road here and there. Being able to reverse at a reasonable pace is highly useful.
100% ?
Been there, done that, it can be hard work! :steamsad:

I need to catch up with the updates and new DLC, lots of new roads to drive, good luck.
Sadly, automatic mode is a bit finicky for reverse gears. You can switch between manual and automatic modes: assign a keybind for Sequential/Automatic Modes in Buttons/Keys settings. Use auto for forward, sequential for reverse.

To figure out which mode you are in, shift in any forward gear. If there is "A", auto. Otherwise, sequential.
