Issues with Controller and Camera Settings on Steam Deck

Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing two frustrating issues while playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 on my Steam Deck, and I’m hoping someone here can help or provide some insights.


Issue 1: Controller Settings via Steam

I’m using the official ETS 2 controller layout for the Steam Deck and running the game with "Proton Experimental." Whenever I try to modify the controller settings via Steam (not in-game settings), the changes seem to be visually saved but don’t actually affect the functionality of the buttons. This issue is particularly noticeable with the rear buttons of the Steam Deck—they simply don’t respond to the new assignments. Has anyone else encountered this, or is there a specific step I’m missing to make the changes apply?


Issue 2: Resetting Camera Settings

Every time I restart the game, my interior camera settings (e.g., mirrors, seat position, steering wheel adjustment) reset to the default configuration. This makes it frustrating to set everything up again each time I play. Is there a way to make these adjustments persist between sessions? I haven’t found any solutions so far.


I’d greatly appreciate any advice or guidance on resolving these issues.

I'm not a SD user myself, but try to disable all possible inputs under "Steam Input Controller" tab, either at global Steam preferences or through per-game Steam properties. Then, bind your SD buttons through in-game "Keys & Buttons" settings and set your SD joystick analog axis through in-game "Controls" settings.

This is a common behavior when you drove company's truck during quick jobs. Once you get your owned truck, these settings will be persistent on that truck until you sell it. Every your trucks have the settings themselves on their own.

the edited config should be saved in your personal layouts. see if it works after you hit apply there

Regarding the 1st Issue I found the solution myself. You need to set the active keybinding source in Euro Truck Simulator to Steam Controller Settings. By default, the in-game keybindings are active, which disables any changes made in Steam Controller Settings. Once you switch to Steam Controller Settings, you can configure your controls via Steam, but any in-game keybinding changes will no longer apply. This resolved the issue for me!

Regarding the 2nd Issue I really appreciate your answer @madman. That must be the reason why the camera settings keep resetting every job. Once I get my own truck I hope this behavior is gone.
