I believe that OcR will be a big leap in immersion and look forward to the retail version, but I have heard ( maybe the OcR users can confirm or inform ) it has some wrinkles to iron out yet, such as comfort when using over extended playing times and where a user has imperfect vision i.e. long sightedness.
I sit about 5ft away from the scree/sensor and it works fine ( light sources are to either side not face on ). It runs at 120fps so is very smooth ( don't think a cheap webcam would run at that rate ).
I always use it for X-Plane, ARMA II, Grand Prix Legends, GTR2 and Power and Glory as it really adds a lot to the experience, in fact it has changed my criteria for buying and playing games since getting it.
Hope you find one in your budget,
No, Oculus Rift is a machine which you put in front of your eyes to give you motion sickness and headaches. You would normally buy TrackIR for a realistic game (Arma, X-plane/FSX, Euro Truck sim, Assetto Corsa). I find it hard to think that in real life circumstances that a box in front of your eyes is realistic.

Tried that before I got TrackIR, almost turned me off using face tracking completely.
