Nope, nope and nope. I've run a SINGLE profile for TSM and ProMods for ages. I even have the same profile though all the recent updates of the game including betas, and multiple versions of both map mods. The only map I've ever made a separate profile for was Hungary because it's a stand alone world.
It's hilarious because my documents folder for ETS2 has auto generated profile backups for over a dozen versions, and I didn't create any of those backups or do anything to load the latest one into the game, it's all automatic. Though I do make manual profile backups to cover any types of corruptions from who knows what. I've had to restore from this backup once so far in about six months.
It simply isn't true that you need separate profiles for the different maps. What CAN become an issue is when people hire drivers on the map mods' specific cities (never do that - only do it on the base or official dlc maps' cities, turn off map mods when you hire to be sure.) or they lose track of the thousand other mods (weather, physics, trailers, trucks, etc) that they have left on.
Always best to also manually save a copy of your main profile folder somewhere - do it weekly if you change mods a lot.
So what? If you use ANY mods, you are constantly going into profiles and editing them! And it doesn't take very long anyway, a minute or two.
You can't safely use multiple mod trucks at the same time so those have to be switched when new ones are tried out, various physics mods have conflicts at different times, different sound, engine, transmission, and decorative mods come out new for existing mod trucks, new weather mods and graphics mods come out and need to be changed, and NEW VERSIONS of the maps come out and need to be deleted and reactivated!
If you're using Mods AT ALL, one is constantly disabling/enabling mods, unless you found a perfect set of some kind and never touch it.
Plus, having ALL the mod maps on one profile means you have the SAME ACCESS to the entire world (particularly with purchased garages for travel points) the SAME COMPLETION PERCENTAGE of cities visited and roads driven (not compiled into one big amount, obviously), and ONE LEVEL of experience and money for one driver. Why in the heck would you want to drive separate drivers with different levels of completion on separate maps instead of one?
And it's not like you're taking that one minute to switch maps every time you drive, one usually drives a certain map mod for tens of thousands of KM/Miles between switching, at least I do. For a good example of this, watch the channel "ForTheVoyeur" (all sims, nothing tawdry!) on twitch.tv He streams ETS2 like 6 hours a day, and has put in hundreds of thousands of miles on ProMods, and recently switched to TSM to do the same. ON THE SAME PROFILE.
But hey, if disabling/enabling mods is a chore for you, don't do it, I guess.
so what you are saying is to edit your one profile everytime you want to change maps?? Thats a big hastle in my books. If I want one mod for one profile, I do not want to have to edit my profile 15 times aday just to have that mod turned on. So I use 2 Profiles, one for TSM and one for Promods.
Yes.
As has been stated, a lot of people (myself included) choose to use separate profiles for each map because then you don't have to constantly change the maps and possibly lose your progress if you are on a delivery (whenever you change maps, or take out trailer mods, the game cancles your current job with no penalty and puts you back at your home garage).
Also, it's better to have separate profiles for different maps if you plan to hire drivers because the coordinates of garages and other info. the game uses to assign jobs and calculate the earnings all depend on static locations (if you change maps, some of those locations might disappear from one map to another).
Yeah, once you have $30M dollars, it's not a big deal to cancel a delivery. Or, just don't change maps in the middle of a job. hmmm.
What you're trading off, is SPLITTING your progress between multiple profiles - each profile has it's own map progress, purchased garages, hired drivers, xp and money gained - yikes, I like all of that in one profile thanks.
And as far as driver hiring, just be sure to only hire at default map or dlc garages. If unsure, temporarily turn off any mod maps, hire drivers, turn mod maps back on. And yes, garages purchased on Mod Maps do disappear when you turn the map off - but the game is not affected by their absence unless you have hired drivers in those garages - so don't do that. And guess what, when you reactivate a mod map - all of the purchased garages reappear again. Again without any crashing or affect on the game, since the geographic location of garages themselves has no effect on the economics of the game and it doesn't care.
It's not programming guys, it's 3-4 checkboxes twice each time. ; )
What? Why in the **** would you be changing maps 15 times a day?!? OCD much? I've changed from Promods to TCM ONCE a week tops. So far this month, only once.
But yeah, if you aren't really a "modder", and you only turn on ONE map for ONE profile, and then never activate or deactivate any other mods, then sure, have multiple profiles.
Of course it will also take you 2-3-4 times longer (depending on how many maps/profiles you use) to level up your player and his business. I don't really want to play the game 4 times longer than necessary.
Just because we don't all do it the way you do it doesn't make it "wrong".
The reason I have two different propfils for TSM and ProMods is because the maps themselves do different things and have different goals.
TSM is about virtual truck driving skills and challenges. It may not be as pretty as ProMods, but that's the point. It's not trying to be uber realistic and detailed. It does, however, present interesting vitrual trucking skill challenges (along with a wider area of coverage). That's why I play the map and why I want a separate profile for it along with whatever other mods I may be using at the time.
The same goes for ProMods.
I drive that for immersion and because it's easy, more or less. It is more detailed and realistic than TSM, but it's also pretty much default roadways and driving skill e.g easy. For example, ProMods doesn't have the CAT quarry at the top of a 2,000 FT mountain with winding roads and hazards like TSM does. Hence, it's a different driving experience and sometimes that's what I want depending on my mood and why I separate them into separate profiles.
