PS4 Controller suddenly not working
Hi guys.
I've played ETS2 for hours and hours with my PS4 controller without having any issues. I started the actual event, then went off for a bit and returned now, just to recognise, my PS4 controller isn't working anymore.
If I try and set up the Steam Settings for controller, it is working, but unsatisfying, as I can't use my usual set up of actions and keybindings (indicator left/right on the digital cross for example).
I replugged it, reconnected it via bluetooth...nothing. Same goes with my second PS4 controller. After closing the game, it works fine on the desktop again...any ideas?

Hey there! I got this issue many times. What works for me is to exit out to desktop, turn bluetooth off and on. After that i reconnect with a usb cable to my pc and then I launch ETS2 and I can use my controller again. I recommend a usb cable due to its not gonna disconnect as long as the pc is turned on. I hope you can do something with this!

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as you told and replugged the controller with cable. Yet as soon as I start the game, the controller stops working. When I close the game, it starts working again. Tabbing out the controller seems to not work as well...

Do you use the Steam Controller Layout? If yes, which setting?

Hey, I use also a PS4 controller. I have it standard plugged in with cable. Have you tried in-game of ETS2? Go to settings -> Controls -> Controller Subtype and set to "gamepad, joystick". If its the issue with connecting controller to the pc I reccommend reing it first from youre device list. After that open steam and when steam is opened plug the controller in via cable. Start ETS2 and it should work.

If both options above are not working tell me!

The controller didn't show up in the ingame device list - just keyboard and mouse. Nothing helped. I made my way threw the Steam Controller Layout now - where the controller oddly was recognsied. Was a bunch of work, but frankly, I really do like the option now, as you can assign a button to multiple actions.

It seems that you're game isn't reconizing the controller. Is the cable/controller in good condition?

I tried several cables and different controllers. Outside the game they work well, no matter if connected via Bluetooth or calbe to PS4 or PC.
As I mentioned above, with the Steam Controller Layout it works fine as well.

Go to the Steam controller settings and uncheck everything...also try to check just Generic Controller...then re boot and go to the game..see if your controller is recognised...then re-do the key bindings....I had a similar problem a while back with my Logitech F310 Controller...I think that is what I did to get it going again

Hey there! I found a fix for this. Try and download DS4Windows. It's an application that makes a ps4 controller work 100%!

Let me know if it worked for you or you already found an solution!
Here's the official link: https://ds4-windows.com/

Don't trust the link by any change? Search google for "DS4Windows download"

DS4Windows is ONLY for Windows 7 and OLDER Versions...

Windows 10 and newer versions have NATIVE controller support, built in to Windows.. DO NOT USE an Emulator in Win10 or newer windows versions.

That's extremely new, I have never heard DS4W is "ONLY" for up to Win7. In fact the current maintainer Ryochan7 even lists the first requirement as:
Windows 10 or newer (Thanks Microsoft)

I've never heard of this "ryochan7" ..judging from the name, I wouldn't trust a 1 byte text file from them.

As for DS4W, It has been out for MANY years, I used it with Win7, YEARS before Win10 was even being developed, sooo again, Who is Ryochan7?

You can do whatever you want, it's your computer, but it makes no practical sense to use an emulator when Windows 10 and newer have native controller support and drivers built-in. I've been using my PS4 controller (hardwired USB) since the first day I upgraded to Win10, and have zero issues in, or out, of Steam with and without having custom setups in Steam Controller Setup. My PS4 controller just works.

Ryochan7 are the one who have taken over the project and continue to develop/patch/update DS4windows for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The benefit with DS4 are that you decide how you want to config your controller for windows use.

There are of course other emulators that work well too. Even the standard Windows emulator also works as intended.
Stick to what you think is best for you.
As the saying goes. If it works, don't make any changes.
