Any plane sims that kinda function like Euro Truck?
I know this is sort of off-topic but after playing quite a lot of Euro Truck lately I was thinking that a plane sim that actually functioned as a game like this does would be great. Flying to different airports in cargo planes and commercial airliners, all while running your own airline company.

Do any games like this exist?

I don't know what the community is like for X-Plane, but I do know the community for Flight Sim 2004 and Flight Sim X are still huge. Both games have a TON of payware addons you can buy to enhance your experience, from simulating passengers (FSPassengers) to running cargo (I think its called FS Cargo), to various aircraft (PMDG 737, 747, MD-11.. many more, QualityWings, Level-D Simulation, Maddog, Just Flight, Wilco.....).

For airports, there are several choices, of which include FS Dreamteam, FlyTampa, Imagine Simulation.. to name a few.

There's also still some large VAC's (Virtual Airline Companies) that still operate. Many require using VATSIM, and when doing so, better brush up on airline phonetics, because that stuff is no joke. You'd also need to quickly learn how to read flight plans, programming an FMC (if you get a payware aircraft, I know a great video that teaches that), as well as learning to read airport taxiway signs and diagrams.

Its a lot of crap to remember, but its a nice hobby to get into. I'd know, because I've probably spent well over 700 hours in my flight sim career. I plan to get back into it at some point whenever I take a break from ETS2 (or ATS depending on what comes later). Hopefully I'll remember how to operate the aircraft, but that shouldn't be too hard. Its not easy to forget some of this stuff sometimes if you're passionate about them.

Thanks. I'll check those out.
fsx steam edition is the better one. more beginer frendly .
wow, someone recommended that game, the one with the insanely overpriced DLC, now i've seen it all.

honestly though i've wondered this too, what games are there for flight sims that DO NOT have exploitative DLC, the more realistic the better.

i've been told DCS is the main one to consider for that, anything else to add? don't bother if it has any DLC more than $10 maximum though.
Well, in all honesty, its not like you need all the "DLC" for the 'Steam' edition.

BTW, its also not any more beginner friendly than the old retail edition. You could also count all the payware addons as "DLC" too for FS9 and FSX, though from third party devs.

There is one simulator by Lockeed Martin I believe called Prepar3D or something like that. I think its mostly used for military purposes, but has a consumer version. Otherwise, the only flight sims I'm completely aware of are Flight Sim series, X-Plane, and that one my Lockheed.

first of all, thanks for responding.
secondly, i just feel terrible supporting a developer who thinks it's okay to charge that much for a DLC, i don't care if you literally had to lose your left nut to make a piece of DLC, give it a sane price or we won't take you or it seriously, everyone knows the slow children when they see them, we don't all point it out though.
Dovetail didn't develop FSX Steam Edition though.. only have permission from Microsoft to be able to publish it on Steam, with a couple edits.

And a lot of the payware addons do cost around $25-$50 in some cases. PMDG are by far the most expensive though. The MD-11 alone costs $80 for just one edition. Think Leonardo's Maddog MD-80 comes in second for expensive, but its well worth the price due to how accurately simulated the aircraft is. Just one tiny mistake and you fry the engines.

Most of the airports I've encountered around averaging about $27 per airport. Some of the bigger airports like KDFW (which I live near by sorta), or KJFK, KLAX, KSFO... those could potentially run around $45 I think. Been a little while since I looked at prices ever since I quit my job. So, can't really spend a whole lot right now.
Microsoft plane simulator or something?

even at $5 or $10 a thing that should be part of the base game being charged for is morally wrong.
you could have spent literal hundreds of thousands of hours making it, it's still wrong to charge such a hugely exorbant price for it.
you could have thousands of $1 or $2 paintjob DLC and evade giving players a proper paintjob editor in the game, that too is morally wrong, yes i'm talking specifically to the developers of this game.

I agree that the paintjob DLC are an embarrassment, along with the gotcha pricing of the Scandinavia DLC vs the complete pack, but I don't think one could successfully argue that a full-featured in-game paintjob editor is a necessary component of a game like this. Also, don't forget that the game lets you customize paintjob colors for most paintjobs, which qualifies as a simple paintjob editor.

i'll give you that much, for sure, no contest, but... when a player makes a feature request, like that, you slap them in the face with THAT? of all things? seriously? that only demonstrates you totally misunderstood what was wanted and are greedy and then even further still you have the audacity to expect them to pay you for it.
I waited two years for FSX to go on special got it at the summer sale. As far has add on's go there are lots of freeware add ons available eg picked up a Spitfire last week and a Lancaster Bomber, this week. Yes they have some issues, In that It takes a bit of practice to fly them well. But it's the same with the defualt aircraft. The base game comes with everything from flying wings to 747.s helicopters, gliders, fighter jets, small corporate jets, some vintage planes like the Douglass DC3, cessnas, prop and jet, Beechcraft etc I hazzard a guees that to learn to fly them all well, will take at least 2 to 3 years. As far has airports go all the major airports plus lots of smaller regional airports are available. Plus if you join a VAC they ussually supplie planes in there Livery, plus extras like Long range Boeing 777. Additional airports, flight trackers etc. so you really don't need to get more than the base game to enjoy.

how is that simulator for armed air vehicles by the way? that's the main interest for me here.

I'm a huge fan of FSX, FSX:SE and Prepar3d but to answer your original question, I know of no Flight Sim that functions like Euro Truck Sim 2 but if I did, I'd get it. I would love a Flight Sim like ETS2, especially if it had the graphics like it as well.
FSX gift keeps on giving only product I know can setup the why you want it.
