Folders on 2 drives.
Hey everyone, I was looking at freeing some space on my C Drive and noticed that I have an ETS2 folder in my documents folder that is nearly 30 gig in size, and also another ETS2 folder on my D drive withing the streamapps>Common folder that is another 15 gig.

Is this normal? and can merged in anyway. I'm not sure why there would be 2 folders. I'd like to move my C drive folder onto/into my D drive as it one of the largest taking up space on my C drive.

Many thanks :)

The one in your D Drive is the folder containing your game files.
The one in your C Drive in the documents folder contains your config files, local mods (aka mods that aren't from the Steam Workshop), backup profile folders, your screenshots and your save file(s).

So no, these folders can not be merged. You can however clean up the ETS2 folder in your documents by deleting very old backup folders and screenshots.

Hello, thank you - This has helped alot. I have had another look and over 25 gig of space is taken up with old Promods that are no longer compatible. :)

fyi windows actually lets you relocate your documents folder (as a whole) when you open up properties in explorer and then select the 'path' tab

Yes you can merge the two, but you don't really want to dump all the profile files in to the root for the game as you may delete a core file accidentally one day.

Step one: move the entire Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder in to the root of your D drives install, So you will have a folder structure as such: drive letter:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2\Euro Truck simulator 2"

Step two: In your steam library right click on Euro Truck Simulator and select "Properties" in the general tab there is a text input labeled "LAUNCH OPTIONS" in there enter the the path to your profile files for example: - -homedir "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2"
*Make sure the path is in quotes and DO NOT enter the second Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder* or it will make a third nested folder.
All done correctly your should end up with a running game out of one folder.
Happy Trucking

Now you got my attention..
I have tried for so long to find my local save files but failed.. just can't find them! Normally for games I play this much I always want to keep a daily backup copy of the last save on D:/ plus on a USB and also on an external HD, just to be sure I never lose my progress.
Can you give me the save file location on C:/ and the file format please?

the 'home' directory, aka ETS2/Documents, can be anywhere.

No, that's the backup that is automatically created as a backup when the game updates to a new version, however small that update may be.
As far as I understand it, this .bak folder is for when the new version doesn't support some out of date mod, or maybe you just want to roll back to previous version, and so you can use the .bak folder to re-instate your previous save games n stuff.
Most folks will tell you that you only need copy the profiles folder into a safe place.
Me? I would write a batch file that copies the profiles folder to an external drive.
You could send that batch file to your desktop as a shortcut. Every day/hour/week you wanna back up, simply dbl-click the "ETS2 Profile Backup" icon (or whatever name you choose).
My suggestion is to use the same method, but write a 2nd batch file to copy the entire ETS2 documents folder to that external location to a separate folder. This copies any mod folder contents too. "ETS2 Docs Backup", f'rinstance.

Depending on data contained in mod folder, this may take some time. Perhaps profile backups daily, and docs backup weekly.

Yes, but I thought the 'save' files inside that folder were the latest but now I see they are from 05-13, probably when v.1.44 was installed, so now I see your point.
I made a new shortcut to the the whole EUTS2 profile folder as you say and I can manually back it up weekly or so on my ext.HD and USB. Now, those save files have 05-16 dates too :)

Not a shortcut to the ets2 documents, a shortcut to the batch file that does the copying automatically when you run it.
[edit] or you can save the batch file to the desktop itself. Either works.
xcopy "C:\Users\XXXX\Documents\American Truck Simulator\profiles" D:\YYYY\profiles\ /S /E /Q PAUSE
where XXXX is your username and YYYY is the desired destination.
I can write 'em for you if you like. Even a couple that copy the backups straight back into the docs folder.

Well, I should have specified that your save file is there when you aren't using Steam Cloud. If you use Steam Cloud then your save file will be in the Steam folder.
ok, thanks
