Why do people play this game?
I dont get it. It has a large active playerbase and unbelievably high reviews. But all you do is drive around in slow ugly trucks?

No fast beautiful cars. No drive-by shootouts. No thrilling intense races. Please explain to me why people like playing this. I've been a gamer for 25 years, played hundreds of games of all genres. But i simply do not understand this game's popularity.

I'm not hating. I respect all my fellow gamers. I just want to understand what about this game is enjoyable.

I like trucking. I like trucking. I like trucking and I like to truck.

Fun, challenging, sense of satisfaction from completing deliveries and upgrading your truck and starting your own company, hiring NPC drivers, etc. Plus, gives a sense of travel and seeing sights. I just think it's a nice change of pace from more stressful games.

A better question would be, why do people play games like PUBG/FortNite/CoD, when they are all the same game with the same weapons and same maps and same monotonous replay in which nothing ever changes? Especially when Unreal Tournament already perfected FPS and MOBA gameplay 25 years ago, why would anyone want to play anything else?

If you like Trucks then this and American Truck Simulator are THE games,
having a steeringwheel, a pedalset, a Shifterunit, a VR unit makes it so much real
Except for the idiots online, its great fun driving online with other drivers

See what happens when you get the Bug ;)

Players are different. Some players like fast beautiful cars, drive-by shootouts and thrilling intense races. Others prefer more slow-paced games like this. Simple as that.

Despite the games short comings - it's highly addictive. And it can be therapeutic - it's a nice way to unwind and catch a break from everyday life. Enjoying the scenery of Europe hauling loads withou end.
Also - many enjoy modding their trucks and being creative that way.

OP, why do you play the games that you play? Not everyone likes the same things. The world would be very dull if we all had the exact same interests... ;)

It's a nice way to relax after a stressful day of work. Not everyone wants to come home and relax by shooting everything that walks, explosions, gore, speed. Sometimes it's nice to just do something monotonous and quiet to get the heart rate down. Same reason I also play train simulator. Just to get the brain and the heart to relax a little.

It's relaxing and peaceful.
I am not a truck or car maniac IRL, I prefer my bicycle. My interest in trucks is based on these games. So when I see one IRL I take a closer look.
The customizing is fun and driving around with no traffic jams and agressive drivers everywhere is just nice.
I have no interest in PVP stuff with toxic chats and I am also not a fan of all this survival craft, horror, whatever thing. Stress... no thanks! :)
But I also like a good shooter (CP2077, Mafia, ... ) or RPG (Witcher3, Skyrim,...) from time to time and all kind of sims like good old Open TTD.
At the moment I play Planet Zoo.... cute, informative and a heaven to be creative. :steamdance:
